    There's actually a store run by Tesla on the East Coast that still services the remaining 1,500 or so still registered nationwide. Tesla bought up a ton of them when they became inoperable as a parts service for the remaining fleet . By the way they have appreciated in value being the rarest modern day ev. Presuming the owner kept it up, they will fetch over $100k.

    Garmin 60- and 66-series hiking units for me, much better receivers than any phone I've ever used. I got into the hiking GPS habit long before getting a smartphone.

    Always mark a waypoint at the trailhead parking. Getting back to the car at the end, is much more important than finding the way to the day's intended hike destination.

    I should have said anywhere your phone works...this was to distinguish from car features that work within a couple of hundred feet via a FOB.

    If your teenager is borrowing your car and leaves the windows down you'll get a windows open alert even if you are in France watching the Olympics.

    I don't think it has anything to do with Tesla. The 4G LTE, by design, works with 5G. The upcoming 6G also supports older 4G devices. The specs were built this way because of the issue of having to retire devices when 2G and 3G towers were retired.

    The Volt was in production through 2019.

    The battery likely falls under the emission warranty, as it is a hybrid. Federal ones will have 8yr/100k mile and CARB ones the 10yr/150k mile one.

    And this is what I like about Tesla. If you need a wiring diagram or service manual, it's free and easily accessible online. Need to bleed the coolant system? Pop into service mode and do it with the press of a button. Need to replace the Pyro fuses? They're right there under a little panel underneath the car. There are some things Service Mode can't do, but you can get access to a third party tool to access Service Mode Plus and do virtually anything Tesla themselves/the service center can do.

    On top of this, since they only make EVs, the support is just there. Although I like the Ford Lightning, none of my local dealers have any EV-Certified techs on staff, so if you have an issue, you're gonna be waiting for a couple of weeks until they can get the 1 guy in the state to come by and take a look at it. Same thing with Voltec support at GM dealers, they don't even care about you any more.

    Once these cars reach end-of-warranty or you don't want to take it to the OEM, there are enough Teslas out there (used parts availability), that when combined with some of their user-friendly designs (like the Supermanifold/Superbottle/Octovalve being right up on the firewall), that getting parts and support is no big deal. If I buy a Blazer EV, will GM or anyone else care in 10 years?

    Sadly I keep hearing stories like this, including people I personally know and was there trying to help them figure out what was wrong with the car. I've seen 3 Ford Escapes all blow transmissions before the 100,000 mile mark. One guy ended up paying a total of $9,000 USD, more than what the car was worth. The other two just scrapped their cars.

    It's stories like these that make me sometimes want to go get an old air-cooled VW and call it a day. At least a new piston and cylinder kit for a VW is only like $100 USD.

    Maybe I have automotive bipolar depression, but if this is true, now I feel like saving up every last penny and purchasing a Tesla as my next car.

    Engine/Powertrain = 100,000 miles or 10 years to original owner
    Most everything else 50,000 miles or 5 years
    Hybrid / EV components = 10 years or 100,000 miles

    Pretty good deal by my standards!

    Somebody could buy a new Hyundai Venue for under $19,900 listing based on their negotiating skills and walk away with the same 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain/engine warranty and 3 years complementary maintenance like any of their other vehicles.

    No - Hyundai is now consistently rated as one of the best automakers for reliability.

    We have owned a 2020 Santa Fe for almost five years now
    Number of problems = 0
    Number of recalls = 0

    Bought new in 2019 an SEL Model with every safety feature on the market for under $25,000.

    Rated as one of the Best SUV's you could buy, a IIHS 5 star Safety Rated Car- Rated by a number of Automotive Publications as the Best SUV Value for the money in 2020.

    It is the safest, most reliable, comfortable vehicle I have ever owned. Also probably the first vehicle I ever bought where I actually felt I got my monies worth + a great value. Would not hesitate a second to buy another Hyundai based on my experience.

    Hyundai also seems determined to make EV's. I've also heard good things about newer Hyundais.

    Looking up Hyundai EV's I feel like they are eerily cheap. $13,000 for a 2019 with only 24,000 miles on it??? And it's explicited stated that that's before the used EV credits (which are pretty good in my state)!?!?

    But at the same time it feels like it would be the Nissan Leaf experience all over again.

    Other than the Ionic EV's Hyundai doesn't make any cars that appeal to me. Mostly SUV's, and I dislike SUV's with a passion (sorry, no offense, they just don't make any sense to me).

    I didn't feel like there was much community support. On MyNissanLeaf dot com there seemed to be a tremendous majority that felt that if you had Leaf problems, go to a dealer or sell it and buy something else. Pretty much every question I had about fixing it, even key fobs, was like "You shouldn't work on your car. You could kill yourself." It looked to me like by the time I joined the Leaf crowd all the DIYer's had already traded in their Leafs for Teslas. When the price of an OEM Leaf battery jumped from the $5,000 range to $8,000 I got even more discouraged.

    It was kind of like this:
    • "The Leaf goes only 30 miles in the winter due to a cold battery even though it has all 12 bars, I freeze myself to death with the heater off and I crawl along at 25mph, is there anyway I can put a blanket on it in the winter and a heating pad?"
      • "NO, you don't want to do that. You would probably damage your battery. Don't put heating pads on the battery. Buy a new house with a heated garage on your miniscule wage job."
    • "Ok. But there's a few guys on YouTube that that have upgraded the battery in one form or another DIY. Any help where to get the cells from a 40kWh car to put them into this 24kWh Leaf or make a little range extending pack? I'm pretty savvy with electricity."
      • "Oh no, you don't want to do that. You'll probably fry yourself and cause your car to burn up and burn down your neighborhood. Go drop the money on a brand new Leaf if you want a bigger battery."
    • "Ok, but what if I just brought a small generator along with me for those emergency situations?"
      • "Why you @#!&@#! You should not ever do that! You'll catch your car on fire, fry all the electrical components, and plus you're destroying the environment using gasoline!"
    • "Um, one last try at this... I saw this guy on YouTube that had a large 6kW panel he towed around. Even if I only got half that from the panel when stopped, that would help me out since most days it's sunny here... and the highways have pretty slow speed limits in this part of the country."
      • "Stop trying to find solutions for your Leaf!!!!!"

    Now I know you are just making stuff up. Do you know how big a 6kw array of panels is?
    The sun provides about 1kw per 1 sq meter. The typical panel is about 20% efficient when directly facing the sun...so 200w/m^2
    So 6kw is maybe 30 sq meters, roughly the size of an 18-wheeler trailer roof.

    Yes, I remember it was going to be around the size of an 18-wheeler trailer roof. But that was my armchair engineering.

    On one such video the person was driving some 30mph-35mph, and during most of the day he was able to keep the batteries around the same level of charge, netting some 250 free miles IIRC.
