Hi all, so my 2005 with 178,000 miles is acting strange. Yesterday the rear hatch release stopped working and today the Key fob lock button does nothing. I can unlock doors with the fob & lock the doors from inside the car and shut the door, but I don't think my alarm is activated. I am in 100 degree heat with a full HV traction battery. Any advice is appreciated as I am at a loss. Thank you in advance

have you replaced the fob battery? you can get a free 12v load test at many auto parts stores, how old is it?

Do you see a red light on the remote ignite when you push any of the buttons every time you push a button you should see a red light up in the corner of the key fob light up. If not maybe time to look into a battery for the remote or fob hopefully that's all it takes If not it's going to be some fun.

I had this for a short period where I could not lock the car when it sat on my driveway. It only seemed to happen on the driveway because the locks worked fine away from home. I verified this by driving it 10 metres (30 ft) down the road and the locks worked fine. I determined the distance from the driveway that was the trigger point by driving a metre (a yard) and retesting and found that around 3 m (9 ft) the locks stopped working. I put this down to EM/RF interference and just as suddenly as it started, a few days/weeks later it stopped and has not reoccurred.

It most likely won't be this, but it is something to try.

In regards to the rear hatch, has your CM (combination meter) - that is, the odometer, gear selector, gauges, etc, stopped working lately? If so, this also stops the rear hatch release from operating.

Thx the 12 volt was installed in February 2023. I’ll try a new battery. The unlock works fine just not the locking feature.

I am house sitting and it’s parked at a downward angle. I’ll move the car and try it again. Nothing else isn’t working. Thx

If a 'new fob battery' does not fix the issue-You might need a new Key fob

Make sure you pull the back cover off your remote before you do anything with it and take a picture of the gray tag that's inside under that cover and make sure the metal key actually works your driver's door this pretty much guarantees that this system you're holding in your hand goes with this car It's not been brought into play with the funny methodology or any of that stuff. With those numbers on that label your locksmith can go a long way to help you without huge expense

UPDATE: I moved the car and the remote will now lock the car when it is parked at a less extreme angle BUT the rear hatch still has to be manually by clicking the release button inside the lock mechanism. The fob will partially unlock it but it still catches which prevents it from opening? At least I am down to only one challenge...perhaps I need a new rear hatch assembly ? thank you

All you will do to a generation too is unlock the doors the hatch doesn't open automatically You have to touch the button as you grab the lift area above the plate light I've not seen one do this automatically I guess you could fit linear actuators if you could find them small enough or something but haven't seen this done yet.

This is not correct behavior. When you press unlock on the fob the rear hatch should not move at all. It almost sounds like the latch is not correctly engaging in the lock mechanism as in it is not latching completely. Any chance you have a collection of crud or some foreign object in the latch?
