Yes, the pictures are the engine water pump. That is the correct pump to change for a P148F code. The picture of the impeller looks good. That's not what I was expecting for a pump with code P148F.

    Thank you for the pictures.

Did you ever have the high temperature coolant warning light come on? How many miles on the car?

Why is he telling me it’s the inverter pump then?

    like 185000 miles

Because he does not normally work on a Prius hybrid and does not know what he is doing.

    Thanks for answering my questions.

Do you still get the same message on the screen when you try to start it?

Did the mechanic use a scan tool to check for trouble codes? Is there any warning lights on the screen when you try to start it?

Did the mechanic try to jump-start the car?

Is the trouble code C2309? If so, then the P Con main fuse needs to be removed and then put back in. I do not know off hand where this fuse is located at.

What is the voltage of the 12v battery now with a meter?

This will be my last post tonight. I need to go to bed.

The 12V battery is now up up to like 12.3 or something. So it's not that. My mechanic told me he has cancer and his getting chemo (!) and he has to go to bed too, so I went home and will go back in the morning. Thank you for all your help today and I hope you sleep well.

Hopefully he will figure it out so I can get up to see my daughter at camp!

Thanks for asking. The situation is the same except that I said I wanted to have it towed to a guy that knew more about Prius but then that guy said he couldn't look at it til Monday so I told my mechanic to keep trying and cried. Thank you also for this video which is not in English but I sent it to my mechanic anyway.

That video linked in #74 is best avoided. It seems to have been programmatically generated without any human intervention whatsoever, and provides the wrong "fortune cookie" for C2309. It seems to instead be attempting to explain P0420 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold (Bank 1)).

    Hi All.
Just circling back to this situation. I needed to get upstate so borrowed a car. My Prius has continued to be stuck at the mechanic who could not figure out how to fix it. He eventually had it towed to another guy who knows hybrids and has a place called "Check Engine". He told me it would be fixed by the weekend when I had said I needed it (again). And then Friday afternoon it still wasn't' fixed. I asked to talk to this guy and he says he just deals with mechanics not the customers. (I do realize that my mechanic is now seeming kinda shady.) Anyway, today, he calls and says the mechanic says that what was wrong was that some rats ate some wires and he needed to rewire the car and it will be $1200. I said let's talk about what's fair because clearly something happened when your guy was working on the car and I'll pay for whatever was originally wrong with my car being fixed. I suggested we split it. He said the water pump was $700 and I said okay, I'll pay $700 and he said that's not including labor and we agreed on $800 cash. I really want my car back but do you think I'm getting screwed? I ran it by a lawyer friend and she said at this point I'd just pay him the $800 but ask for a detailed invoice of everything they did to your car.

it's really impossible for us to tell. i would say if it runs, pay him the $800. but without knowing what he repaired and how he repaired it, there's no way of knowing if it will last.
chewed wires are a long standing prius (and other cars) problem. not easy to find and can be difficult to make a good repair.
how many miles on your car?
