19 inch wheels on a Prius is the equivalent of someone in the 1950s not being aware that smoking cigarettes is harmful. You don't need a warning label or scientific study to know 19 inch wheels is an example of planned obsolesce.

oddly, tyre size was one of the things that prevented me from buying a new prius.

You can LITERALLY go out and buy new wheels and tires and sell the OEM ones.

How are you an adult? Like, how do you have a job, maybe a family, you have grown up responsibilities but you throw your hands up in the air and claim defeat because you didn't like a car's OEM tire size? They use a common lug pattern with a common bore size (which you can also buy adapter rings for), and selling the OEM wheels and tires would be enough to pay for a different set in the size you like.

Like I'm not trying to be all "you got soft hands brother" because I work in management, but holy shit Prius drivers really are softer than baby poop. It's a very minor problem with a very easy solution and that defeated you?

Toyota doesn't just make cars for North America. Comments during the gen5 release made it sound like the tire sizes were already available in Japan. It is not a case like the i3 where BMW had to work with a tire company to make that size for the car. (note: Those even narrower tires will fit the gen5 wheels for those looking for better efficiency) Availability will expand.
The fuel efficiency meant Toyota kept the tire width the same. Sounds like the higher performance required a larger contact patch though. Larger diameter was to only way to get that. This size could become common on EVs.
