Since none of the 5th gen trim levels offer an operable moon roof (fixed panoramic glass is the closest thing) what aftermarket brand or style would you recommend for the solid roofed version? Or would you argue against it?
Y'know, I really hadn't thought about that because the power moon roof was offered up through the third generation. But you're right, I've never seen an aftermarket sun or moon roof, powered or not, on any generation Prius.
...Although, I did just stumble across one with pics in the forums, here: 2015 Prius v Aftermarket Sunroof | PriusChat
Just sat in a brand new 2024 at the car rental section of the local dealership (Escondido, California). The car "just got plated" today. Only four miles on it, and yes it's available for rental. Did you know not all the new Prius are affected by the recall? I didn't. It depends on the VIN and batch number. Rental guy told me they had another 2024 that was affected and they had to pull from the fleet. Anyway gave me a chance to find out the new generation is harder to get into and my back won't be happy. Plus, my head cleared, a little tilted, but just barely. I'm 6'1". Once inside I loved the feel. I'll get to the point regarding this thread. The hard top has a some uneven contouring on the roof that I think would not work with a sunroof, I don't see how one could seal....The only other 5th gen I'd seen up close had the glass roof.
Prius production was halted around April 17 and was restarted around June 15. All Priuses built prior to the halt are subject to the recall, and all Priuses built after the restart have the fix already installed. The June production units are just now arriving at dealerships, and that's what that rental car was. The car they had to pull was built in April or prior.
I took a look at the thread and the installers web page yesterday afternoon. The big question I had was if that install was offered by the dealer and how it might have effected the warranty of his than new 2015. Even if it was a dealer offered install, I think the owner would have had to have been shackled to that dealer for warranty service of most anything on that car. But, the subject never came up in the linked thread and the installers contact web page was down when I tried to use it. I did see that there is another company Same Name I got redirected to that's located in WI , I got redirected to the WI company / branch web site while trying to bring up the contact page. I guess if a customer really wants a feature, the manufacturers warranty is not really that big an issue for them.
