Spilled drink in my wireless charger :(

Here are some options, depending on your budget, available time, and skills:

• Ignore it and hope for the best. The area underneath the wireless charger assembly has carpet, padding, the parking brake cable (inside a heavy rubber sleeve), some insulated wiring harnesses, and the brackets for the console box. If you haven’t noticed any malfunctions, it might be better to leave things alone, rather than risk damage during disassembly, cleaning, or reassembly.

• Pay a Toyota dealer to clean and inspect your Prius.

• Pay an independent repair shop to clean and inspect your Prius.

• Pay Toyota $15 for two days’ access to techinfo.toyota.com. Follow the procedure in the Repair Manual for “INTERIOR PANELS / TRIM: REAR CONSOLE BOX: REMOVAL,” clean the upper console panel sub-assembly, the wireless charger assembly, and the area underneath, let it all dry out completely, and then follow the procedure for ”INTERIOR PANELS / TRIM: REAR CONSOLE BOX: INSTALLATION.”
  
  If you just remove the No. 1 upper box plate and the upper console panel sub-assembly, without taking out the entire rear console box assembly, you would need only a molding remover; if you remove the bolts, you’re supposed to use a torque wrench when reinstalling them (10 mm hex socket, 13 N·m torque). Be gentle with the wiring harness under the panel.
  
  You can also do the “POWER OUTLETS (INT): WIRELESS CHARGING SYSTEM: OPERATION CHECK”: essentially, turn it on (green light), verify that it can charge a device (amber light), and then turn it off (no light). A flashing amber light indicates a problem.

I hope these suggestions are helpful.

 

What sort of drink - it might make a difference to how you approach it. Water is less likely to cause problems than soft drink/soda which could be acidic (and sugary). Milk based drinks might smell for a while as the milk spoils.

If you choose to ignore it, I'd ensure that the interior is allowed to dry thoroughly ASAP.

 

Now we know why the trim is in bathroom white porcelain.

Good news is, if the liquid has drained away then it's probably less likely to harm the phone charger.

 

I always thought it was only a matter of time before a cup of something went over into the charger, I'm never going to use it anyway.

 

I’ve never used the Qi on my 2016 Prius 3. But the black rubber pad has wrinkled up and some of the white console by it, on opposite side of the switch has gotten hot and paint has melted/crinkled (from something overheating) dealer wont cover it. Says it’s just the rubber and that’s not covered. Problem is it won’t sit flat so it doesn’t charge. That extra money I paid for extended warranty, was equal to flushing down the drain. Just because I don’t use it, doesn’t mean Dealer can ignore it. If I ever want to sell this thing, this defect will be an issue. I’m not happy with this car at all.

 

Have you had it since new? I'd be ringing TOYOTA.

 

Something overheating or getting hot is a safety issue, it could catch fire. I would put this to the dealer or Toyota as a fire hazard.

 

something similarly horrifying is happening to my Prius Prime. See the photos. Anyone have any explanation?

 

Either you've got an electrical short in that area under that center console or someone placed something very hot in that area. I would think you would smell some plastic burning when that happened. Does your seat heater work and are you getting power to everything in that center console?
In my third year with mine and it still looks factory, minus the coffee rings in the cup holders.
