    Hi everyone,

This is my first post here but I have been reading the forum for some time, I bought a cheap 2007 with a failed HV battery here in the UK. Thanks to the forum, I was able to replace the bad modules and recondition the pack. So far I've done about 750 miles it is running fine and averaging over 60mpg (imp) (about 50mpg US) .

Anyway I want to convert it to run on LPG as have all my other cars for the last 20 years. One of the first complications I have is where to get an "ignition on" signal to drive the LPG ECU.

Basically I need to find something that reads 12v + when the car is in "ready" mode and zero in all other modes. Any suggestions?

Also...My understanding is MG1 spins the engine up to its idle speed then the injectors are switched in - not sure about the ignition coils though. Does anyone know if the injectors and ignition coils switch on at the same time when the engine starts?

I would think when the coils are active the fuel pump and fuel injection should be active so that the engine can in fact start If you're missing one of those components you don't have an engine running generally speaking and with the factory repair manual wiring diagram which can be downloaded from other users here and what have you you should be able to find the wire that you can find that's got voltage when the car is ready in this case meaning it's ready to run it's on when it's time and the car computer say so the engine will start or attempt to start so that should take care of your signal that you need for the LP G ECU

    Thanks for your reply.

I was probably thinking it more complicated than it actually is

I think it may be a simple as taking 12v+ from the wires coming from the fuel pump relay, or the injector wiring.

You do realize that the LPG tank will have to be removed to get to the traction pack, when/if it fails again. You should keep that in mind and make it easily removable, meaning extra wiring harness connection/disconnections and gas cut-off valves.

    Just a thought.....

So the deal with LPG conversion is the clean burn business not enhanced gas mileage or mileage or any of that?

It's slightly cheaper than gas, half the distance of an equivalent gallon of gas, and generally difficult to find a fueling station - unless his area has heavily subsidized it, so it's readily available in the area he frequently travels in. Almost forgot, loss of trunk space.
Since he's owned LPG cars, none of the above should be an issue for him...

How is that (LPG ecu) supposed to work? On a Gen2 Prius, the engine ECM will fire the injectors and coils only when the hybrid vehicle control ecu tells it to actually start the engine.

The engine will spin at 1000rpm when the car is EV only above 40mph (but doesn't fire the injectors or coils).

So the ECM and hvc ecu have to work together.

When I last had an LPG car, the tank was doughnut shaped and put in the spare wheel position. Worked well.
