There are already a few states refusing to register these because they can't pass safety standards. Personally I welcome small low-speed vehicles, but I think the right way to use them would be restricted to small slow streets where the heaviest trucks are already disallowed by scale or ordinance.

Yeah Kei trucks are a little larger than most Cushman utility vehicles, and yet smaller than that wave of imported pickup trucks. One distinction is that they are generally built for heavier loads and the features were geared towards more industrial usage than those 70s pickups. Tool storage and built-in facilities like a vise, compressor, hose reel etc, but on a very small chassis. The deal with those 1970s pickups was a roof over your head at not much more than motorcycle costs. Cheap, and cheap, with room to haul more cheap if you see any.
