Hello all, Last night my passenger side headlight bulb went out and will be the first time changing it out. I checked a few forums on figuring out if I have hid/halogen and ended up creating an account on the Toyota website. I read that if my car has fog lights, more than likely will have HID headlights(my car has fog lights). I checked the Toyota website and it says “Multi-Reflectr Halogn Auto-Off Headlamps”. Does that mean no HID? Thanks in advance.
Do you know what package you have? You can cross-reference it here. 2G Prius (2004-2009) Standard and Optional Equipment (Some Countries) | PriusChat Yes, for 2008, if you have the foglights, you have the HIDs unless you bought it used and a previous owner swapped it out.
Im not sure what package I have. I bought it used so i’m not sure. I did buy it used but it does have all of these options on here for trim #6. It shows it should have HID headlights. I will probably just remove them and check them out.
My experience has shown every Gen 2 with fog lights also has HID head lights. If you want to verify, there's an easy way. Just look at the back of the headlight where you access the bulb. HID will have a hard plastic access cover with some thin fins equally spaced around it for finger grips. Halogen will have a rubber cover with 2 rectangular nubs sticking up for finger grips..
pain in the ***, aren't they? I HATE those covers, especially if the previous 'changer' installed them with dry o-rings. It's like the covers are epoxied in place.
Yea, compared to my other cars. I ended up partially removing the front bumper to completely remove the headlights. Turned the cover about an inch and used a flathead screwdriver and came off pretty easy. Got lucky I guess lol.
