I have a new 2014 prius V. How do you properly turn it off? Do you just press the Power button and everything shuts down or do you press the brake and press the power button? I know to start, you press the power button then press the brake+power button again.

On my Gen 3, 4 and Prime, I just press POWER and it shifts to park automatically and shuts off. I just have to engage the parking brake.

There is no harm in engaging Park and/or pressing the Brake pedal prior to pressing the Power button off. I rarely use the manual parking brake.

You don't have to do that to start; you can skip that first step, and just hold down the brake and press power.

Powering off doesn't require you to be pressing the brake. A lot of the time, though, you will be pressing the brake anyway, because you've just stopped driving somewhere. So it makes sense to power off while you are still holding the brake. The car shifts itself to Park while powering off, so when you let your foot off the brake after powering off, it won't roll.

bisco's method is the same for me.......in my "advanced years" it has been the simplest to remember!! I do apply the "parking" brake as well.

It's a good idea to let the engine shut off then hit the power button.

To properly turn off your 2014 Prius V, you just need to press the Power button once. You don't need to press the brake. When you press the Power button, the car will shut down completely. To start the car, you press the Power button once and then press the brake while pressing the Power button again.

The car will start just as happily if you skip that first part, and just hold down the brake to press the power button once.
