Why is apparently no one buying a Prius/Prius Prime on the East Coast?

Calling every dealer in east coast is not feasible, but did you look at the FB group? https://www.facebook.com/groups/nomarkuptoyota/ if you do search, a dealer from NJ posted yesterday about an allocation. And in the end, you need to look into their refund policies and commit by placing a deposit.

Thank you, but I don’t do Facebook, and I’m not signing up just for this.
I’m content to wait until supply increases hopefully, but my real point in this thread is that the title is and was, nonsense.
You can’t look at online inventory and assume it is correct

I'm in the Boston area, and I got on a dealer's Prime XSE waiting list back in May. I think there were 6 or 7 names in front of me at the time. The salesperson said that the SE and XSE Premium waiting lists were longer. That's unfortunate for the people on those other lists, because it's been my observation that Toyota's been building more XSEs than the other trims. At that dealership, if they got an allocation for two XSEs they might get one XSE Premium and maybe an SE. The Google Docs Prime allocation sheet that I've been tracking seems to be consistent with this ratio as well.

I finally got my allocation last night. The dealer expects it to arrive in January, but based on my recent experience in purchasing a Corolla from them, it might be sometime in February. Going to pay MSRP with no markups and no requirements to finance with them. It includes the only option I asked for, which were the all weather floor and cargo liners.

I had considered asking for the 12.1 inch display, but I was told that Toyota was typically building with that option plus the fixed glass roof together. I don't want the fixed glass roof, and I didn't want the 12.1 inch display that badly, especially since it would mean the volume knob would be closer to the passenger side.

According to the Toyota web inventory, 2024 Prius Primes may start arriving at the dealers as early as on Monday, November 20, 2023.

I am looking at PHEV's now and was interested in the Prius Prime but OMG BLACK ONLY interior with red. I hate black interiors for how hot they get in the summer. I refuse to even test drive it for that reason. I really wanted to because of all the other aspects. Toyota, you screwed up by making it black ONLY. I need a beige or grey lighter interior option. I will be taking my business to Volvo.

I'm on east coast. Currently driving my 3rd gen 2 Prius. Running 40 psi all 4 tires, not low rolling resistance, getting steady 48ish mpg.
For a variety of reasons am thinking about getting a gen 4 or 5.
Ran the numbers for my average 22,000 miles per year, figuring $3.50 per gallon, 17.2 cents per kilowatt electricity.
At those numbers I will be looking for a non-prime. In Cali the Prime makes more sense.
If I had an attached garage the hassle / cost savings might be worth the added expense of a prime.
I had to replace the hybrid battery in my 2nd gen 2. $500 for a battery from a wreck, did the exchange myself.
Probably my last car purchase and do not want to chance purchasing a replacement battery for a prime.

Or I might get a recent Camry Hybrid. The gen 5 Prius is impressive, but I challenge any considering the Prius to drive a Camry Hybrid.
JMO, the recent Camry hybrids are much nicer than the gen 4 Pri and a bit roomier than the gen 5s. Gen 5 is a bit smaller/tighter.

We have a 2024 hycam. Beautiful car, but really in another size class from Prius, and not a hatchback.
Prime is not really state specific (unless there are incentives) but situational. We have a garage and do a lot of local driving which could all be done on electric

What’s the miles on it and have you cleaned the carbon out the EGR and intake manifold?
I’m coming around to that too, owned a 2010 since new, over maintained, and I’m 73. :)

I can't wait to actually see one. The measurements show that its bigger, but the internal space measurements on spec sheet don't seem that much bigger, with most of it being in the passenger. But I am going to assume, like other camry years, its more about the general space, like that between the seats themselves etc.

Wife and I never had a bigger cars. When I borrowed an accord for a road trip, it felt big. Same when we borrowed her parent's lexus ES (basically a camry). It was an odd feeling to feel so... separate lol

With kids, I feel like the hatch is needed for us. The extra space - even if the gen5 prius is smaller than previous, is still more room than a sedan trunk.

175,000 miles now. Purchased in 2020 at 100,000 miles with 4 year old OEM replaced battery pack. Good price.
Stumbled upon it while having troubles with my 2nd 2004 which had approx 305,000 miles.
    We are same age.
I am impressed by Gen 4s and Camry hybrid. If I get a 2020 or newer I will have remainder of 10 year / 150,000 mile warranty.
Most new vehicles have price increase of about 20% in last 2-3 years. My guess is that will continue.
No hurry, but my search has begun.
    Regards, Craig

I have greatly enjoyed the hatchback of the Gen 2. Very useful. It fit an 11 foot surfboard, with fin removed, back and forth to Florida.
