What kind of mpg have you been getting

I talked to a guy with a new Civic hybrid at Costco Gas, and he said he was only getting 39-40. I have been consistantly in the 48-51 range for almost a year. He was surprised.

 

I have a short daily commute (10 minutes max.) so with the colder temps here in south-central Wisconsin, I've been getting only 35-38 mpg. During the summer I was getting 54 pretty consistently.

 

WOW!!! I can't wait now. The old Bimmer I have how is at 23.4 mpg

What are your best hints for getting it up that high, McShemp

 

right now, about 48. when it's warmer out it's more in the 50-54 range depending on how i drive. i usually do not try too hard. best tank ever was just shy of 57, then i was trying.

 

Minnesota. My mpg for 2006 was 44.07. However, I bought this Prius at the end of July, and have had cold weather/snow tires since early October. Also only have 4500 miles on it so far.

(Wife's Camry Hybrid purchased end of Sept., now has 3000 miles, also snow tires, got 35.77 for 2006. Not bad! She has a 9-mile commute to work, though, and I have less than 6.)

We just filled her up for the first time. Got 46.2 mpg on first tank. Weather here in KC in the 50's. I was impressed with the mpg number tho. Was expecting lower since she's new to the road.

Due to the temps pretty much I have been staying at 44-45mpg. Each tank so far (for long distance trips) I have been getting about 420 miles on a full tank and my fillups have been at 8.5 to 9 gallons at one non-flashing bar.

I think once the weather warms up my mpg will go up...its these colder temps which is killing the mpg a bit and of the bladder. Either way I like the idea that I can get more miles in this car in less gallons (420 miles in 9 gallons as compared to 380-390 miles on 13 gallons in the Olds).

Did you invite them to go online and get a few tips from a Hybrid specific forum (GreenHybrid or CleanMPG) ? Many Prius and HCH owners are getting chronic bad mileages due primarily to ignorance.

Winter (mild) in central Illinois and I am averaging in the 42mpg area. Give or take depending on if I want to use heat or not or if it or if it is colder. But certainly none of this 50 plus mpg that you always read about.

With the (finally) cooler weather here in Florida, I'm finding it much easier to break 50 mpg. My last tank was my best ever: 53.7. On the latest tank, I'm at >56 mpg, but I'm sure it can't last. Eventually I'll make a few short trips that will pull it back down to the 53-54 mpg area.

 

I put on Michelin Snow tires and have not really been babying it, as I did during the summer, and our weather has been a little colder, and I have dropped from 51 t0 41.

 

The best I had been able to average until recently was 48. Then two things happened, 10K on the Prius and put in Mobil 1 5W30. The 3 tanks since that have averaged 51.

 

Freeway and commute to downtown LA.

This cold spell with all of the ice and snow is killing this tank. I might have my first sub 45 mpg tank

It's supposed to break soon, but not soon enough for my taste.

Try blocking the grill if you can (took me about 45 minutes - but I am anal & really made it look GOOD).

My tank since blocking the grill has jumped about 3-4 mpg (same drive and I believe the same style, but maybe I am trying harder). My display shows 49.9 for the tank so far (about 250 miles on it). We'll see how it goes after a couple tanks.

Nah. The bladder will shrink from the cold and you will get great mileage on this tank as long as you fill-up before the weather gets warmer. Of course you will get lousy mileage on the next tank. Seriously, due to the changing volume of the tank caused by the bladder, the per-tank mileage on the Prius can be very misleading.

 

My lifetime mileage is a display screen 43.4 miles per gallon. I have 4400 miles. I don't know why I get so much less than most Priuschat people. I have a ten minute commute to work and I go with the recommended tire pressure.

 

Hi All,

Filled up early part of last week. Was at 54.2 mpg for the first 94 miles on the tank after the drive home on friday (50 deg F on friday evening, 23 miles one way). Then had a few short trips over the weekend, and the defrosting this morning (1/8 inch of ice which was melting on the car) and pulled into work at 49.1 mpg. First 5 minutes (due to the battery being topped up from the short trips) was at 5 mpg this morning as the engine runs, without charging, just to warm. Could have used an EV mode switch this weekend, to get the battery down to 4 bars for this morning. Then the engine would have charged it up to 7 bars, during the defrost, and could have used the electricity for driving.

Have the radiator top slit blocked, and the radiator grilled blocked about 7/8 ths. Running 40/38 psi on the tires.

Traffic was back to normal last week, and this morning, got caught behind a truck right on the on-ramp, which was doing 50 mph. With the lighter MLK day traffic, the next lane over was doing 75, so it took about 3/4 's of the highway portion of my trip to get out from behind the truck, just in time for to hit the sections where its slow (25 to 55 mph). So, The last 20 minutes of the trip was at 75 mpg plus on all the 5 minute bars, with two bars at 90 mpg plus.

Tomorrow will be the big hit on mileage. Supposed to be below 10 degress in the morning. When that happened for a week in early December, I had a 41 mpg tank. Since then the radiator blocking has been improved. Hopefully, I will keep it above 45. But if there is any slogging home through 2 to 4 inches of snow, that wont happen.
