Hello all, The tires on my 2013 Prius V five 77,000 miles, are at 4/32 and I’m looking at options for a set of replacement tires. Currently I’m running on Pirelli P7, they gave me just under 30,000 miles and 4 years of use- good tire overall but looking for replacement , summer tires that will give me the same mileage I’m getting now 43mpg, or better and maybe last longer too. Rain safety is a big consideration for me. Tire kingdom guy told me to get all weather tires to get many more miles of use, but didn’t know how those would impact mileage. I live in Florida now but plan on moving to DC to be closer to my family- won’t drive much in snow I don’t think but concerned about summer tires holding up in cold winter weather? Planning to move to DC within the next few months so most of the life of the tire will be DC life. would all weather tires decrease gas mileage substantially? So, do I go with a good all weather tire, stay with summer tires and which brand, model, do you suggest. thank you all in advance for your time and help!
Thank you for your quick reply! I was looking at those but this review on Tire Rack turned me off: “April 22, 2024(Verified Purchase) 3.8 out of 5 These tires replaced Michelin Primacy LTX DT tires which were discontinued. I immediately noticed a 10% reduction in gas mileage and a significant increase in road noise with the CrossClimate tires as compared to the Primacy LTX set. These discrepancies still remain even though the tires are older. I wish Tire Rack would include rolling resistance measurements in their overall analysis. Tire wear and handling characteristics are as advertised; however, I do not normally drive aggressively. I will not purchase these tires again.”

I would not take one review as gospel. I installed them on our v and noticed no mpg hit. They are clearly superior in rain and snow. They are not cheap and are unidirectional so rotation must stay on the same side. Long-term Test of Michelin CrossClimate2 All-Weather Tires - Initial Impressions | Torque News
We replaced the OEM Toyo A20 with Continental PureContact 225/50R17 98V and have been very pleased with the wet and dry handling, noise, ride, and the new tires had no adverse impact on MPG, even when new.
Had defenders on my v and got 75,000 miles and no mpg decrease. I rotated every oil change.... 42 front 38 rear psi.
Had the Cross Climate 2’s installed yesterday and they seem like great tires for the V, the short ride home was smooth and tires were quieter than what I replaced- when I got into the car this morning the TPM light was on, checked the pressures and the rear right was at 12 pounds. Went back to Costco where I bought them they said the valve stem covers I had on the car were too short and one pushed the stem letting air out. Been using those stem covers for years, guess this tires different? They put green stem covers on. other question I have was I saw tire date codes 1024 on 2 left side tires but found no date code on right side tires, they told me as these are directional tires one side won’t show date codes as their on the other side? Guess that makes sense???
After about 2 months of driving I can report a 10% -15% loss in gas mileage, though I do find the ride better and smoother.
What pressure are you running on them? I’m debating on picking up a set for my 2017 Five, but am concerned about the MPG hit.
31/32. I was bummed too but for me the longevity, wet traction, and better ride made me be able to justify the loss in mpg.
Why 36? Isn’t that overinflated? I know overrinflating gives better mileage but what about the tire wear and safety issues?
Read the tire patch to see how much is too much inflation pressure. Higher inflation pressures increase hydroplaning speed by a factor of the square root of delta-pressure. Safety is not an issue unless exceeding maximum inflation pressure when cold.
I’ve read elsewhere the max inflation is 51. I want to run it at the right inflation for all factors, safety, longevity, braking rate and mpg. I know that if they are inflated too much they wear in the center quickly, too low is not good either. I guess I’ll run them at 35 and see how they feel and see if any change in mpg. There has to be a “correct” pressure for this tire and its application on the Prius and I don’t think the pressure sticker is accurate for all tires other than oem?
Pressure recommendations (sticker pressures) are generally biased towards soft ride, not driving performance.
What would you suggest inflating them to for safety and mpg both in mind? Sticker says 33 front 32 rear. Thank you !
On the v Five, I run 225/50R17 tires. Initially at 36F/38R, and now at 38F/40R. Rears higher, while also running a TRD rear sway bar, with which the cars tracks better i crosswinds and when turning.
