I have an 05 Prius with 155k miles that was left sitting for a couple months during quarantine. After getting it started again I was greeted by the red triangle and the replace HV battery code. I checked in Dr. Prius and it seemed block #10 went bad, so I took the battery pack out and replaced the block with two fresh modules. I got everything connected again but the ICE won't start, car flashes "ready" for a second and something clicks a few times but the battery doesn't seem to be working. Yes I've checked the orange plug and made sure to push it down. I forgot to do this the first time I tried to start it but made sure its been done since. Cleared the codes and checked the 12v battery as well. The 12v was a little weak so I charged it up and its been reading 11.6v when the car is on. Everything started and drove fine before replacing the modules. I don't know what I could have broken. The error code is P3004. I also once caught code CA799. I triple checked every cable going into the HV battery, and even reassembled the thing and checked. My only guess is that it could be the modules nuts are not torqued in correctly(??) -- there are two of them on which the nut is in but will still sort of spin but wont go further in or out. There isn't any sign of severe corrosion on the bars and the relays look like they're in good shape, nothing burned up. I can still see the battery information and voltages in Dr. Prius, but somehow the energy is not getting to the car. I made sure the battery is bolted to the car and so should be correctly grounded. I really want to get this thing going again but it's time for a new car if I can't figure this one out.
What have you tested on the HV battery and contactors? Do you understand how the contactors work and how to test the circuits safely? It's high voltage but really it's fairly simple. When the contactors close, HV power (supposedly) isn't getting to the inverter. So something in the HV circuit doesn't do what it should. Read the service manual, and test the parts of the circuit until you find the problem. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Make sure your power cables are properly tightened. Anything remotely not upto spec can cause the error. It's a highly tuned system so the smallest drop in voltage is logged
Yeah I checked all the torques for the battery hardware and checked all connections and pins for corrosion.. everytging looks and feels good. Waiting for the other scanner to come in the mail tomorrow so I can check what the subcode is
