2013 Prius, Bolt pinning parking brake broke? Help

    I was repairing the rear brakes on my 2013 Prius but the 14mm bolt that locks down the parking brake (like holds it still) snapped right off.
    Does anyone know the part number to get the replacement? Is there any good way to get the pin out of there? Like half of the bolt is stuck in there.

    A photo? If it's a 14mm hex, the bolt is an M10x1.25 J.I.S. flange pattern.

    It's this bolt. I would drill it out but it has a bolt at the other end of it and I am not sure what to do.

    Just as I thought, it's an M10x1.25 J.I.S. flange bolt.

    All you need to do is to extract the broken piece by drilling it out, use penetrating oil and extract it.

    Them you need to chase the threads out in the hole with an M10.1.25 tap.

    Both pieces of the bolt will tell you how long the replacement will need to be.

    In the States McMaster Carr is a good source. Local hardware stores also stock metric bolts, which may or may not be physically compatible, things like thread pitch for example. Grade may be off, so depends how critical the application.

    You want ISO 10.9 grade J.I.S. flange bolts.

    Oh okay, yea I went to autozone and they just have so many but at least most of them at 10.9 grade which seems to be the equivalent of metric 8 grading.

    I think the specific flange bolt is M6 though for this because it measures out to be 5.3mm

    8.8 is mild carbon utility grade used in chassis sheet metal fasteners.

    10.9 is internal engine parts grade and a lot stronger.

    a search on Amazon for, "10.9 JIS flange bolt." They are readily available.

    There was a bolt from the brake caliper that is metric grade 8 (not 8.8). That is equivalent to 10.9 no?

    8 or 9 is a common OEM designation for ISO 8.8 grade.

    10 or 11 is a common OEM designation for ISO 10.9 grade.

    Even if OEM uses a bolt number 8, a 10.9 bolt is a stronger replacement that might not have snapped.

    Food for thought:

    Regardless of the original bolt grade, it’s a hold-down bolt for a cable stay. It’s a “relatively” important cable stay, but just for the parking brake.
