Help programming Smartkey for auto unlock & start? Initially worked from pocket. help restore? 2008

hi!
When i first acquired my delightful 2008, the 3 fob / smartkeys all automatically unlocked the the car when I was in close, and the vehicle started when I pushed the button. I did not need to insert the key.
those were the good old days.
Something happened at the billings, montana dealership ...
After I stopped in a nearby state, got coffee or whatever, and pulled up on the handle - the car was locked! can you imagine! when i tried to start the car by pushing the button, it felt like something seriously must have been broken Buy those dealership thugs.

eventually, i realized that i must now take the key out of my pocket or bag, hit, the button, and insert itnext to the steering wheel in order for the vehicle to function.

been five years.

Is there something I can do to return it to the former condition? i tried praying. it would sure mean a lot if you could offer some guidance.
