Anyone have one of these on their GEN5? I'm struggling to install this and I'm pretty sure the housing/shell from FITCAMX is off. There's two rows of clips and I can only ever get one row on even without any extra cables in there. It seems to rock back and forth when I put it in position to slide onto the clips, which leads me to believe the plastic fins where the holes are located (none on the OEM housing) are actually making contact with the DENSO unit up there. This creates a gap towards the windshield side of the housing that isn't secure and rattles above 40mph Also the extra shell piece for the rear view mirror is the wrong hole sizing.. In contact with their support trying to get this figured out, but curious if anyone else has had experience with this.
I had one in my Rav4, no rattles but it def didn't fit flush and no matter what I did I could never get it to.
DId you transfer the retainer clips from the OEM shell to the shell from FITCAMX? I don't them in the pics you posted.
This!! You def need the white clips off of the stock housing. Its what locks it into the mounting brackets. My kit does not fit flush with the windshield in the forward area of the housing. Not a fan of this at all. I'm going to modify the housing to get it to fit a bit better at some point. I've sorted how to do it, just need to get some time to make it happen.
Yep, I transferred the retainer clips Those clips are the only ones that are actually making contact with the OEM clip receptacles, the ones in the front don't slide in and that's whats causing mine to not not fit flush at the windshield either.
Okay it sounds like they sent you the wrong shell. It should fit nice and snug and flush. Your shell does not look like mine by looking at the vent openings.
Hah! The second piece is probably because of me (sorry) Fun story. When they sent me mine, the first big housing was defective, and they replaced it. But when I installed the new one the little slide piece for the rear view was a snug fit. It was a slightly different size, and when I went to adjust the rear view mirror, if I moved the stalk itself more vertically, it would catch and pop the cover off. In one instance it was clipped to the main house well enough that it actually popped the main housing off its clip slightly. So, they told me to send them a picture of the one I received AND the original part from Toyota. They were quite different and they made a new plastic trim piece based on the measurements of the Toyota one from the photos I sent. I figure this is the case because that piece you're complaining about looks a lot like the one they sent me as an alternative. Here's the thing though - I have an *SE* model. I don't have any electronics in the rear view mirror. It's just a regular old mirror. And I can only assume that the stalk that holds it in place is different from the upper trims that have the rear camera switch, garage door integration etc. So what *might* have happened is they didn't realize that my photos and original complaint which they addressed satisfactorily was specific to the SE. And that the part may need to differ for the XSE and Premium trims. And now you've got your issue with the second piece. As for the main housing, its finnicky and it took me a couple tries. I had to make sure all the wires were nowhere near the clips or the housing when putting the housing on. Otherwise the cables can catch and make it impossible to get a good lineup. The actual housing also needs some force to get on properly once you do get it all lined up with no cables in the way, then you can just poke the cables back inside the box through the gap. Edit: Actually, out of pure curiosity I compared my part to your photo for the smaller clip piece. Mine doesn't have what looks like a bevels or similar on it near the opening. It's just flat, not angled with distance.
UPDATE: Decided to check the recordings the other day, and when playing back I noticed I was only getting about 2 seconds of record time then it would stop and start a new file. And while I was looking through the rest of the files I noticed that the cam was not overwriting old files. The last recording was May 14th. Basically a month of driving and no video files. Quick google search pointed out that the supplied micro SD is basically junk. I purchased a SanDisk 128gb to replace it. Only did a few quick recordings and they were both over a minute long. I'm hoping this was the fix.
I replaced the supplied MicroSD day one. And for months now I've had no issues with it not overwriting old files. I check once a month to make sure this hasn't cropped up and in the last 4ish months since install, haven't had the problem once. Probably was just the crappy supplied MicroSd card
I found a video with an installation and a comparison (with and without the lens) It makes sense to install the lens before installing the camera.
I haven't noticed any glare on mine to be honest. And the review here says that they don't know if the lens is worth it. I guess, if you're installing a new order, if the lens is cheap, may as well include it in the package for shipping. Otherwise, if you already have the cam installed, not worth it.
