That sounds like a workaround for the fact that the doors don't auto-lock when the vehicle is in motion like in the US/Canada models. (Has anyone ever come up with an authoritative explanation as to why that is?)

I mean, 3Q is only 1.5 months away.

    My guess:
First full production batch of new parts goes to the factories so production can restart.
Second batch goes to dealers/ports so cars sitting on the lots can be sold.
Third batch goes to dealers to fix cars that have already been sold.

I'm hoping the pre-production new parts have already been made and are being successfully tested right now so they can switch to full production very soon(if they haven't already).

Unfortunately my states EV rebate closes at the end of this month. I was all set to sign papers the weekend after the stop sale was announced. That $7500 would have gone a long way.

Im curious too. One reason at least in Germany is that historically people just did not need it and dont feel that they need it as well (like feeling unsafe driving around or waiting at traffic lights). Perhaps some might even see it as a safety issue or something impacting their freedom

Why Toyota doesn't even offer it as a dealer configurable option is still weird - its not forbidden.

Right, I realize that in other countries people don't have the same fear of their fellow human beings drilled into them, but it feels like there should be more to it than that. It's configurable so they could just use a different default, after all.

Has anybody experienced this is door opening issue? Seems like there should be a separate thread on it.

They mean the problem itself, not the fact that dealerships have stopped all sales - which is what this thread is about.

See this thread for a discussion of the actual problem:

I would like to think this is the way it’ll work, because my car is in the “build” stage. But my guess is the opposite: First batch of parts goes to dealers. Cars already on the road pose the biggest risk to Toyota and their customers. What if a door opens after a car wash and kiddo flies out onto the road? Yes, unlikely, but an unthinkable cost of life and liability. Next batch to the cars at ports for the quickest sales. Finally, to the factories.

By the way, the end of the 3rd quarter is September 30. They'd still be right on time if no Prius sales happened until then.

I would consider selling my Prius if I could get enough to get an all electric BZ4X, sadly they don't sell them in Ontario.

The bZ4X is considered by many(including Toyota lovers) to be the worst BEV on the market right now(as well as the rebadged Subaru Solterra).

Just saying it might be better to wait for Toyota's next BEV if you want to go that route.

Damn, further reading shows I don't want that vehicle... well boo.

I would also love a full conversion from PHEV to BEV

i think it gets a bad rap. it's a very nice car with toyota reliability. if you want fast charging for long trips then no, it's not right for you.
in my mind, the biggest issue is price. i picked up a new bolt for 23.5k, that's where bevs need to aim for.

Volkswagen ID4, Mercedes EQE, and Jaguar I-Pace are the worst according to Consumer Reports. bZ4X is better but not much better than them. It was Toyota's first take on a real BEV; so, it is understandable.

It will take a few years before the BEVs get better. Tesla, Hyundai/Kia, Ford, and BMW are currently ahead in the game. For example, Lexus RZ that came out later is already rated a lot higher than bZ4X; so, Toyota is catching up, too. Volkswagen also has the highly rated Audio Q4 E-tron and Q8 E-tron. They are all getting there.

Really? Do you mind sharing what you don’t like about your Prius besides the recall and tire issues?

I finally saw a Bolt in person the other day. They are really small. How do you like it?

I was surprised you were interested in the BZ4X. I love how it looks in red but have only heard negative things about it.

They had the Lexus UX 300e in China and Europe. Perhaps there were some China only models. The UX didn't use a clean sheet BEV platform, but then neither is the e-TNGA.
The negatives for it. and the UX, boil down to price. The isn't anything wrong with the cars, just that their EV specs are uncompetitive for the MSRP; there are better BEVs for the money.

i love it. only 7 months and 3,000 miles, but it is perfect so far. the biggest downside is that the hatch is about 6" shorter than the prius. i got the euv, and there was a smaller one called the ev.
i never noticed any until i got one, now i see them everywhere.
it's a great runabout with 400 miles of range in decent weather. wouldn't be a great long trip car imo, but a lot of owners do. you have to really understand the public charging systems and have the right apps.
everyone is waiting for the use of tesla superchargers which is immanent.
i really like the higher seating position and ease of access over the prius. mrs blikes it better than her hycam, but the hycam is a great cruiser.

It's probably because she wants a BEV instead of a PHEV. You don't even want a PHEV; so, this doesn't apply to you.

You still haven't given up on Gen 5? Gen 6 is around the corner by now. ;)
