I hate when I'm riding along at full battery just under the eco line with the engine off getting 100+ mpge and I hit a small dip and it crosses the eco line and engages the engine. Why doesn't this transition point provide more resistance or work in ev mode for a bit longer before engaging the engine (including in eco mode)? Is there any timing software that can update the ECU to add these resistance points to the hybrid system so the eco line is not so easy to accidentally cross? Or is it best to just engage EV mode during long flat stretches that I know I won't need gas power?
^ You're referring to this median line? This isn't a plug-in, just a regular gen 3? I wouldn't go chasing electric-only propulsion too hard. It'll eat up the charge especially fast if your're almost at that line.
It's a hybrid... The engine compliments the Electric parts... They depend on each other for maximum MPG. However in coming years there's been lots of R&D in aftermarket battery packs that can improve your MPG with way more battery power, but it's still in an early stage of development.
Think about it: if there were a deadband at this transition point, they'd be getting a lot of complaints about how the car always seemed to run out of breath at a certain point, THEN the engine fires and acceleration continues.
Probably doing it wrong. I get better mpg doing pulse and glide engine off under 45mph, and using the battery to shut engine off, and scoot up at stop lights. Running in EV too much just makes the engine run more.
