I need help finding constant power for my two-channel VIOFO A229 Pro, which was hardwire installed in my 2019 Prius Prime (4th generation) by a car audio shop. As installed, the dash cam currently powers off when the ignition is off (even with parking mode enabled in the dash cam settings), so I can't use the dash cam's parking mode features. The dash cam is on only when the car's accessories are on and/or when the car's ignition is on. I'd like the dash cam to have constant power so that I can use parking mode. The pictures show which fuses the dash cam has been using. I think the empty slot under 15A P/OUTLET NO.1 is currently the dash cam's power and the empty slot under 7.5A DOOR BACK is accessory. I want to figure out where to safely move the power fuse tap for constant power. Any ideas would be most appreciated.
So the audio shop used EMPTY slots for both of your power leads? It's very unlikely that they got lucky with BOTH being empty to begin with. If I'm reading it right, then you're identifying those fuses wrong. --- the 15A "above" P/OULET NO.1 is the correct fuse for that function. Which coincidently is a good candidate for Accessory Power --- On the left column, third fuse down (7.5A DOME) is a good candidate for Constant Power How are you with a multimeter? Do you know which of the sides power flows in to? Check what I told you, and check what the shop did! Report back when you can.
The accessory power and battery power cables were mixed up. The multimeter showed that the cable labeled as accessory power had constant power, and the cable labeled as battery power had only accessory power, so I swapped them. Parking mode activated. Hooray. I had to lower the voltage cutoff to 12V, though, because the previous 12.2V setting prevented parking mode from staying on for more than a minute or two. Everything seems to be working now.
Be careful now, as in the world of the 12 Volt lead acid batteries, when you reach 11.99 volts the battery is technically discharged. You're still able to crank the vehicle (for the time being) but allowing the camera to constantly take it down there doesn't leave a whole lot of margin left. I'm glad you're able to troubleshoot the issue regardless. I take it it wasn't a Viofo Hardware wiring kit?
That's a very good point. I switched the cutoff back to 12.2V to be safe (the hardwire kit is a VIOFO HK4). This time, parking mode seems to be staying on, so it might have been just an anomaly the first time I used the 12.2V cutoff. I'm due for some maintenance anyway, so I'll have my battery checked in case it's a bit weak. Thanks for your help.
