recently i met a friend for a movie. after the movie we were walking back to our cars which were parked next to each other and were having "fob wars". we were seeing which had the greatest range... I won (i think it might have been because my batteries were fresher  ) but as we walked towards the cars, i was about 25 feet away and i heard the door lock click. the lights didnt flash and sure enough, when i got there the door was locked. so i was wondering, is there a time limit?
I thought that the manual states that if a door is not opened within 30 seconds, the car will relock the doors. It's a security feature.
If you press the unlock button on the remote and don't physically open a door or the hatchback, the car will re-lock after 30 seconds. Just a safety for someone who might have the remote in their pocket or purse and the button might get pressed accidentally. Dave.
Nice feature, the dealer told me about it before I read it in the manual. But it won't work if the doors weren't locked before you press unlock. So parking, shutting down the car and just walking away won't work.
Aha! I thought I was going crazy once when I thought I had unlocked the door, but when I got to the car, it was locked. While I might nevertheless be crazy, at least this particular happening has an explanation...
For those of you who like to play "fob wars," the dealer can increase this delay to 60 seconds. However, there is not an option to turn off the auto lock delay.
actually i think its a great idea. there was one time that i accidentally hit the panic button (very hard to do since you must hold this button down for like 2-3 secs for it to work!) i would hate to hit the unlock button accidentally when playing with the change in my (yes i said CHANGE!) pocket.
