The world’s fossil-fuel producers are on track to nearly quadruple the amount of extracted oil and gas from newly approved projects by the end of this decade, with the US leading the way in a surge of activity that threatens to blow apart agreed climate goals, a new report has found.​

A notable absence, coal. Then comes the embedded opinion:

There can be no new oil and gas infrastructure if the planet is to avoid careering past 1.5C (2.7F) of global heating, above pre-industrial times, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has previously stated. Breaching this warming threshold, agreed to by governments in the Paris climate agreement, will see ever worsening effects such as heatwaves, floods, drought and more, scientists have warned.​

Having gotten a certificate for my online studies from Global Warming and Climate Change skepticism examined, I agree but my hair is not on fire. Our species is in transition between nuclear fission and tapping the 93 million mile away fusion reactor. These things take time measured in decades.

The rest of the article is an opinion piece that remains exceptionally weak. Pointing out the 'humbug' if there is any interest:

• "1.5 C" - is a goal, not a hard requirement. Our planet has been warmer in the past. We have a rich biosphere ready and willing to capture carbon for more useful purposes (i.e., reproducing more of them.)
• Absence of coal - a major, declining carbon source. Coal companies are going bankrupt.

Once we burn up the cheap stuff, the biosphere will have to capture while our species moves to the fusion power plant 93 million miles away and abundant fissionable elements on our planet.

I am curious about the "Venus hypothesis." Is there a level that makes Earth into Venus II?

And we've seen extinction events too. Certainly that fusion reactor will change to heavier atoms, expand, and take out the inner planets including Earth. Elon Musk is trying like heck to preserve our species and biological life by moving colonies to outer planets (and moons?)

No, I'm curious if extinction of the biological mechanisms for carbon capture will save us and the planet. Corals are already under threat and they sink a lot calcium carbonates. There are still abundant other carbon sinks but are they at risk of loss or growth from the temperature change?

Our ancestors will find out as we are already running the experiment.
