Reporting myself to moderator since there is some political risks. But blinding ourselves, becoming deaf, and stopping talk about the environment, what would happen to this forum? Source: Trump will dismantle key US weather and science agency, climate experts fear | Donald Trump | The Guardian . . . The plan to “break up Noaa is laid out in the Project 2025 document written by more than 350 rightwingers and helmed by the Heritage Foundation. Called the Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise, it is meant to guide the first 180 days of presidency for an incoming Republican president. . . . a senior adviser to Project 2025. “The National Oceanographic [sic] and Atmospheric Administration (Noaa) should be dismantled and many of its functions eliminated, sent to other agencies, privatized, or placed under the control of states and territories,” the proposal says. . . . Bob Wilson
Truly there are political ramifications that cross over into Environmental issues. Even so ... readers coming across the word "fear" ... as to what the 'opposition' may or may not do ... It's reminiscent of the nickel Sudbury mine operations .... imo.
The worse our environmental issues get, the more people are desperate to blind themselves to these issues... Thank goodness for young people who entirely reject this dishonest denial and are finally fighting back!
Many Federal Agencies develop policies related to environmental (including climate) issues and enforce them after legislation is enacted. See a list here: https://www.kirkland.com/publications/article/2021/05/environmental-law-and-practice-in-the-united-state#:~:text=The%20federal%20agencies%20which%20implement%20and%20enforce%20US,6%20Pipeline%20and%20Hazardous%20Materials%20Safety%20Administration.%20 Other Federal Agencies fund basic and applied research on such issues. Find a large detailed data table in here: https://ncses.nsf.gov/surveys/federal-funds-research-development/2022-2023 States and private entities fund research and development of projects with environmental implications. Some of those receive Federal subsidies, primarily in energy supply and efficiency I think. The reason for summarizing this is to show that a lot happens beyond NOAA. Readers knew that already. Project 2025 also takes aim at some of those beyond NOAA. Readers may know that also. But it would be a daunting task to do much damage to US global leadership in environmental preservation and improvement. Even if Project 2025 can get all three branches of Federal Government to eschew reality. I have greater concern that new 'leadership' in Executive Branch could convert Federal Agency employment policy extensively to ‘Schedule F’ meaning political appointments: https://www.federaltimes.com/federal-oversight/congress/2022/09/30/did-my-federal-agency-plan-to-implement-trumps-schedule-f/ https://www.govexec.com/workforce/2023/04/conservative-think-tanks-are-preparing-list-20k-potential-political-appointees-hopes-reviving-schedule-f/385545/ https://apnews.com/article/federal-employee-job-protections-rule-trump-biden-4c1954c0ac089d0370a405ec4029fc9d This is more feasible because it partially happened last time Executive Branch took a wander away from reality.
Someone a few blocks from us just slammed in a nice big artificial turf lawn. Plastic grass isn’t green: the problem with artificial turf - Environmental Defence.
Best thing about fake grass is you can empty out pee bottles on it if you're an employee of "The Rock" and once the owner of the fake grass does a Google search on the smell they'll realize It's what happens when the neighbors dogs are scenting/pissing each other and fake grass has a problem with that. Of course don't get me wrong, I'll always love dogs more than: The Rock Pees In Bottles and Makes PAs Handle It
You have to water the plastic grass to keep it clean, if there is no rain? As for dismantling NOAA it would be for revenge. No support for the sharpie hurricane path? “He was right”, everyone say it, or?? There is no other plan.
Rain provides very little relief when the uric acid crystals start forming in the soil below the fake grass. Unless you use enzymes specifically designed to digest this stench field, it will only get worse & worse .... especially on hot days. And if you have big dogs, the problem is compounded. After trying every product that supposedly controls/mitigates, we found them all to be pretty much worthless. Only the one below was able to do the job. Quite expensive compared to the others so we would buy it in 20 gallon increments, 5 gallon buckets so we could get a price break. Plus I'd drive 75 (ev) miles out into the SoCal desert where it's being manufactured so the shipping wouldn't kill us. Even their alternate product zeofill granules do way less of a good job. .
My tactic with our "lawn" is to neglect it, other than running a mower over it occasionally. Native plants and moss crop up, ones suited for the current clime, and it gradually settles into a decent equilibrium. We ain't Nitobe Gardens* yet, but there's some nice spots. We even have one "weed tree", an oak that started up in the shadow of an Asian Birch, planted from a seed pack our kids got at 7-11, about 35 years back. That tree succumbed to something, maybe increasing drought spells, and was taken out. By that time the oak was a close-second anyways, and it's filled out nicely. * Nitobe Gardens
