I have a 2004 Prius that needs a traction battery. I have pulled codes in the past and it was indicated then. 210,000 miles now and getting the Red Triangle and limp mode every time I drive it so I'm going to keep it parked until I get this taken care of. Anyway, I'm leaning towards having the dealer replace it mainly so I can get the 3 year warranty but my dealer seems to think it's 1 year only. I was wondering if someone had a link to the 3 year warranty info that I could print and bring to my dealer for confirmation. One other question, I bought this new in 03 and have had very little trouble with it. I'm thinking if I spend a few grand replacing the battery I'll get 5-10 more years out out of it. I expect more stuff to wear out/need replacing but assume the engine will last at least 50-100K more. Is this reasonable? Anyone out there having issues with their gen 2 prius after battery replacement? Any problems getting parts for them at this point? Thanks in advance!

if the engine isn't burning a lot of oil, you should be fine. oem battery replacement is the best solution. you could call toyota and ask about the warranty. i thought one year was if a dealer didn't install it. either way, i wouldn't worry about it. the batteries have proven nearly flawless. the brake actuator could be the next potential large expense, no way of knowing
I did find on the web where it talks about 36 month /unlimited mileage warranty if the dealer sells it and installs it. This site won't let me post the link, I'm a new user. Makes sense I guess. Anyway, It's cheap to drive. Feels like it's 20 years old but everything works except the traction battery. Have not noticed much oil loss. I've got 2000 m on the last change and now that you brought it up, I'm going to go check the dipstick! Thank you very much,
The brake pump and accumulator will go at some point that's a $1,400 part but that and the battery are the two big issues and the generation two is good to go unlike some of the other models
I replaced the traction battery of my previous 2007 Prius in 2021 with an OEM Panasonic and the dealer told me the warranty was for 3 years.

So, since I want to keep this a long time, do you normally just go to the dealer for the brake pump and accumulator or is there a good aftermarket solution? Might be smart for me to get the parts before they become un-obtanium or double in price at some point. Thanks!
Yes it looks like nobody's going to pick up rebuilding these things there are some parts available but everything is really sketchy so if you can find a low mileage or not a low mileage car but a car and a tow lot where that was the last thing somebody did and then the battery went out and they junk the car you'd be shocked how often this happens usually like I say Prius owners are anal about receipts the glove box will be full of receipts I just go through and look see the break accumulator pump assembly was replaced 8,000 miles ago a dealer that did it and everything and well there you go or there are some places that people have got them for $700 which is basically half price or $850 somewhere in there If I was in the market and saw something like that I would probably just go ahead and buy it because I'm generally planning to keep the car for $600,000 so if it's worthy of that and that kind of shape then I don't mind buying a few parts
