When I use remote start with my phone which is often in NE cold nights)from the house and go out to car almost always it doesn’t recognize Car Play so I turn off radio then hold in to reboot and almost always hooks up to Car Play It’s a PIA other than shutting off power and restart which is worse as I have my seating set to partially move back now a bigger PIA and to shut down whole power system is even dumber do you think that Toyota may fix this issue thru sortware update at sometime or is it years off this issue?
Wireless CarPlay sometimes doesn't connect, but I don't reboot anything, just Settings - Devices - my iPhone - Connect button and it connects in a couple of seconds. I blame it on using OBD2 scanner often over BT, so it might mess with CarPlay connection, not crazy annoying, though, maybe 1 trip in 20.
Just hold the power / volume knob down on the radio for a few seconds, that reboots the radio. It should connect pretty much immediately once rebooted. The reboot is very quick if done this way. Quickest and easiest solution I have found. I am usually rebooted and re connected to CarPlay by the time I pull out of my driveway FYI.
What makes it so much of a PIA is that the volume knob on the far right is such a terrible spot have to lean out seat to touch it And then press once to shut it off then hold again for like 3 seconds to reboot most un ergonomic feature of 2024 Prius duh I avoid the volume knob always for daily useage but it’s the only way to reboot the system correct ? I really expected better tech issues I have lived w/o all these tech features etc.etc. And still could but the reliability and repeatability seems to be poor Technology is wonderful…..when it works
I think the problem here lies with a little lack of understanding on how the system works. CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth are all forms of Wireless Personal Area Networks, in that, they are all close-range, with bluetooth being the longest. When you remote start your car, naturally those won't connect because you're far away. Your question should be "why doesn't the car continuously scan and connect to my phone like my Wi-Fi does." The answer to that is, you might not want it to! Heck, I distinctly remember all the times I've cursed at my phone thinking it was broken, when it had in fact connected to Bluetooth while my car was warming up outside during winter. So maybe this, amongst other engineering reasons. My fastest method to getting Android Auto connected is simply plugging in the cable. Once connected you can pull the plug and it's still there. Another is, like someone point out...Settings > Devices & Bluetooth > Iphone
Just a joke my friend. The Market Basket chain in New England has been privately owned by the Demoulas family for decades. It made headlines years ago when two prominent members who are both named Arthur (Artie T and Artie S) was feuding that threatened the company's future. I actually ran in to one of those Arties, not sure which one, so that's why whenever I see that name it brings me back.
BTW ArtieB, I'm in Mass as well. If you'd ever want to meet, throw around mod ideas or need another Prius to test stuff on, hit me up!
