Hi All. First time posting here. Just got a 2014 Prius, imported from Japan into Europe. I ran the Dr Prius Battery Life Expectancy today and got a strange result: Can anyone help me with what this means? Should I be worried?!? Thank you.
Hi bisco. Thank you for the welcome and the reply. No I didn't run it again, too scared I would blow something up! It just felt so wrong flooring the accelerator and pressing the break so hard for so long. Just wondered if it was a result anyone else had gotten themselves or seen from someone else. I guess I just need to do it again.
I ran it twice more. The second time I got 194%!! The third time I realized what I did wrong - I was keeping my foot hard on the break whilst discharging the battery! This is the third result - which I think is a good one?
Hi. I'm using this one I wondered if it's because the car is a Japanese import to Europe that the VIN is not shown?
Good catch. You might want to try the Hybrid Assistant app too, to see if it also works with your OBD2 adapter. Both apps are really good at giving lots of data about the Prius systems and data that one app doesn't have can sometimes be found using the other app. I was wondering the same. You could send an email to Dr Prius support and ask if they know of any other issues when using the app with an import from japan. Hybrid battery diagnostic and repair tool for Toyota and Lexus
Thank you both for the support and advice. My first Prius and first hybrid so a very different experience from years of driving diesel or petrol cars. So far I'm loving it - the car and the whole experience of driving it and learning about it. It's such a calmer way of driving.
Yes, I've been using this the last couple of days after watching a YT video on it. Not 100% sure what it's all about yet but I'll figure it out. Thanks.
If you already watched a YT you probably already know about the option to view the reporter data (there is an option in settings "Archive Trips" that lets you choose how many trips to archive). The default screens are not the easiest to view at a glance like DrPrius. The reporter feature in Hybrid Assistant is were the app really shines since it saves a ton of data for each trip it archives. And the more you read it the more you'll start to understand what some of the more obscure bits relate to.
I keep getting the same error code. So are you not supposed to keep your foot on the brake when doing the test even though the car is in reverse? I get down to about 200 seconds left and the engine kicks on to charge the battery and it throws the error
That is great news! Now get going with the egr circuit cleaning. You’ve got 3 hours to complete it, time starts now!
It could be a glitch in the test, or it might indicate a potential issue with the battery. I'd recommend consulting with a mechanic or someone knowledgeable about Prius batteries to interpret the result and determine if any further action is needed.
The similar happens when there is a module in the battery pack that suddenly loses its charge during the test and the battery charge drops below 40% instantly and the engine starts. Such a module can be detected by trying to discharge it with an RC charger. During discharge the charger will throw an error message saying something like the voltage of the battery is too low.
