So I'm a huge Prius fan and I would considered myself as a Mega user and enthusiast.
I've used my Prius to do very strange things and unconventional mods.
Hoping my next car meets my old Prius needs and new demands.
I love my Prius and she has been 100% reliable for all my crazy adventures.

2009 Prius bought at 146k and now has 207k. So far the only issues has been:
    1.Tires
    2. 4xTPMS need to replace my second set.
    3. Dash light capacitors replacement.
    4. New windshield
    5. Piston oil soak 5x to slow down oil burning. It's has basically stop for now. I currently see 90% improvement.
    6. Made a $70 MEGA and Overboard DIY catalytic converter shield in my backyard.
    7.1x set of brake pads.
    8. Changed Hybrid cooling pump.

    Mods done:
    1. Hitch I tow often and tow way many things a Prius should not tow.
    2. Installed 2000 watt inverter to Prius a back up generator for black outs and camping situations.
    3. Truck button release for camping and sleeping in back of the Prius.
    4. Oil catch can to slow down oil burning via PCV valve.
    5. LED headlights.
    6. Tons of 12volt sockets in trunk and back seat for phones and device.

So I have a small budget for my next car and the following contenders are 2014 Chevy Volt or 2012 Prius Plug in.
I wanted everything my current Prius provides and the opportunity to run in EV mode in the city for short errand trips.
I'm leaning towards the 2014 Chevy Volt since it's very much like a Prius but also has 30-40 mile pure EV range before the gas engine kicks in.

Anyone has experience with the Chevy Volt?
Any nightmare stories and good advice much welcome. Im doing my research now before my purchase.
Does anyone have a Volt now or considering one too for the future.
Or should try and get the Prius plug in even though it really doesn't have pure EV mode.
I really like the 3rd Gen Prius plug in but i hate that the headgasket is going to blow up and it's just a matter of when and not if.

I would go for the Volt because of the known issues in gen3 Prii. However I would pay extra to get a second gen Volt (2016 up) due to better batteries, drivetrain and ability to use Regular gas.

A second gen Volt might have remaining factory warranty (8 year 100,000) which would be good to mitigate against hidden issues.

it was really a good design until the GM bean counters decided to kill it in 2018 and focus more on the Bolt which is pure electric.. worst that could happen is the scarcity of used parts when things fail.. just junk it is always the course of action, unlike the Prius where it's everywhere in the junkyard especially the gen2.

Anyone wants updates or interested in the difference between a 2014 Chevy Volt and 2009 Prius?
I think anyone considering the Volt as a replacement for your Prius you will find a few trade offs.
Let me know and I'll do a write up.
I really hate to leave the Prius Chat community since I learned so much about my Prius. The Volt Forum isn't as extensive and helpful. So that's one trade off.
For me after two month and 1100 mile camping trip with the Volt is a good trade off but lacking on a few subtle difference that can be a deal breaker for others.

    i would be interested :)
i'm not in the market, since i bought a new bolt last fall, but prius comparisons are always interesting.
my biggest complaint is that the bolt hatch is much shallower than prius. it is 6" shorter overall, which probably explains it.
