Quick vibe check for folks: New 2024 Prius LE vs a used 2023 XLE with 15-20k miles for similar price (say $32k). Thoughts? I have a 24 LE reserved, hopefully arrive in a few weeks, but I do see some of the latter at local dealers. Gut says buy the 0 miles over the used option (pros: extra features, no wait; cons: 15k+ miles!), especially since I don't feel that strongly about what I read in the XLE feature list. (Another con might be that out-the-door for the used XLEs is not the same price but another $1-2k, do not know.) But maybe some love the feature adds? Just checking opinions...
I'm not a fan of larger (19") low profile tires, as used on the higher trims. Worse gas mileage, more prone to damage from potholes etc and significantly more expensive to replace when they wear out. That's one of the main reasons I chose the LE. I have no idea how long the tires will last but with a used car you're that much closer to replacement time. And, apparently, there are no exact replacement Prius tires (17" or 19") available now. I suppose you could go with a slightly wider tire, though I expect this would reduce the fuel economy to some extent. The only reason I see for getting the used XLE would be if you just can't live without whatever extra bells and whistles it has. That's how I see it but I'm sure some others will have a different point of view.
If you back down to a gen4, you can get the 4K federal rebate -but if you have money burning a hole in your pocket. Stick with new - at least you'll know how badly the car's been abused.....
The LE is the best G5 Prius for the money IMO if gaudy fuel economy numbers are important to you. The SE Prime would be the next one to get.
