Does anyone have a link to a sure fire cable that will work? I see zillions with bad reviews. I also saw on these forums a link for Tech Stream that you could get a 1 month subscription to from Toyota, but now I can't find it. Does anyone have this link? Thanks!
Most of the mini VCI J2534 cables are fine. The bad reviews are for trying to install the cable driver on a 64-bit Windows computer. The driver is the most difficult part of the process for getting Techstream to work.
The "professional diagnostic" and "security professional" columns here are the ones that include use of Techstream. Toyota - New Subscription It looks like those two columns don't offer a 'monthly' rate, only your choice of the two-day rate or the yearly.
The mini vci cables work, but drivers are a PIA to find. It took me 4-5 different ones before finding one that worked on win 10/64bit The tatrix openport cable works but is $180(?)
Yes, you create an account to do so. You still need a cable (and install its driver) to connect from the OBD2 port on the car to the USB port on the computer.
Last time I re-upped my subscription, their payment processing was still weirdly clunky. You go through a bunch of verify-this-is-really-your-email stuff, and supply a payment card, and the payment goes through, and there can be a delay of several minutes at least before stuff that's supposed to work starts working, and sometimes it just doesn't. When it doesn't, you can call their support number and you really will get a real person who will make it work. And they'll extend the subscription by however long it didn't work. But they are only there business hours Monday through Friday. So if you are ever planning to use a two-day subscription over a weekend, be sure you actually make the payment Friday afternoon, so you can get through to support if they need to kick it for you. Once they kick it, there won't be further problems for the length of the subscription. There's just something clunky about the way the payment gets flagged to the systems that need it. Anyone can buy the "professional diagnostic" subscription. The "security professional" subscription is the same price but you can only buy it if you're registered with some locksmith's association. The only difference is it lets you register new keys when you haven't got any of the old ones.
Thanks! I was thinking I don’t mind paying a lot, but just for one code I might just take it to the dealer
