So my wife's 2017 Prius has no navigation, Car Play, or XMRadio. She really like how I have all 3 in my 2021 Prius. The only thing her car has that mine doesn't is a CD player...which surprised me!! Is there a way for me to give those to her, in her car? I saw the infotainment system is thousands of dollars...is there any way to get the software upgraded to, at least, give her a couple of things? I keep telling her to get a Crown or a Corolla or Camry Hybrid but she's stubborn...wants to keep the old green thing for a long time.
They're probably not thousands of dollars from the salvage yard. They might be hundreds still, and you might find the connectors from her wire harness version won't fit them, and have to do some poring over the wiring diagram to work out which wires have to go where. Toyota Service Information and Where To Find It | PriusChat For navigation and XM, there will be GPS and XM antennas and cables you'll also have to collect from the donor car.
Good idea, Chapman! We do have a couple of pull-and-play yards not too far from us...I'll be researching!!
Does hers have the 7" screen? That's a pretty standard double DIN size and there are a number of aftermarket options at different price points that offer all of that. You can even keep steering wheel button controls with the right adapter
The Sony XAV8500 I think its called came out this month and Crutchfield has it for about $840. Well worth the cost. I put an Alpine ILX-F509 in my 2018 prius. Wish I would have waited a couple months and I could have saved about $500.
does she have th Touch 2 Go ? I think this is the standard audio system. here in Germany it is. Then consider that: AUTOABC δΈ¨ Smart Driving & Carplay Solution
Hey @KRDucky, Love seeing your response here because I was looking at doing this exact Alpine radio. I also was considering the SONY too. Wondering if you have any photos you can share of what it looks like mounted in your Prius. Also curious if you did the Maestro harness integration so you could keep original functions and if you lost any OEM functions with the aftermarket radio? I have a 2017 Prius Four with Advanced Tech so it has the sensors and lots of other features and related settings I do not want to loose if I change out the radio. Thanks for any feedback you got.
What does the Alpine ILX-F509 look like in your car? I installed the JVC KW-Z1000W in my '19 Prius and it's honestly too large. Otherwise, I've been fairly pleased with it. I found a good deal through Best Buy open box, but I'm considering returning it for something else. The screen is adjustable, but even in the lowest setting, it blocks the lower portion of the A/C vents, and that may just not fly this summer in Florida I mainly just want Apple Carplay (wireless) and I do love the PSI readings for the tires, can go with any Maestro friendly unit.
also check Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market car-part dot com (if link does not work) You can usually find Prius head units there. If she wants Apple Carplay, you will need to go '20 or newer
Thanks! I did find an aftermarket screen that allows a person to connect and us Apple Carplay for very cheap but my wife has decided to give her 2017 Prius to our daughter, who's in need of a vehicle. After much research and visiting numerous Toyota dealers, she's decided to go with a Corolla Hybrid AWD SE in light-blue (celestite). I tried to steer her towards a Crown or a Corolla Cross but she likes the smaller cars...and didn't like the new Prius but that's a no-go anyway with the recall...you can look but don't expect to drive one home.
I honestly had a '23 Corolla Hybrid XLE, but I was bored to tears with it. It's a great car, amazing MPG, but I honestly missed driving a Prius (love hatchbacks) and I like having something to tinker with. My Corolla was also celestite. I ended up selling it through the Lexus dealership - they gave me a great price for it. I wasn't exactly thrilled with the new Prius myself, HATE the display a lot. I like the hybrid Corolla Cross too, but honestly Toyota needs to put a larger infotainment screen in there --- it looks weird with the standard Corolla screen in it. I would consider buying one, in the future, if they give us the European trim levels with larger infotainment. Our high schooler will be driving his dad's '16 Prius this coming year, so we're getting it repainted and upgrading his to AppleCar play also. Will probably go with an aftermarket stereo or I may be purchasing from Car-part myself for a '20-'22 head unit.
