I don't have my Gen3 Prius to recheck anymore, but did test my 2024 RAV4 Prime, which 'ought' to be the same or similar. With the physical key removed from the fob, it still starts just fine. When locked from inside the car, the outside proximity feature of the fob doesn't work, but the Unlock button on the fob does work.
No in the States to be clear I would be more worried about humans possibly supposedly good humans like police and people claiming to be part of law enforcement and what have you they're the ones that'll be trying to get in your car while you're sleeping maybe a drunk to get in there and sleep with you but it would be of the human animal kind in the States for the most part unless you were you know I don't know Park down in Florida in the Everglades close enough to where a crocodile or something could come up to your vehicle It just take one bite and half the car would be gone.
Problem is if you require additional steps to point out the location of where the surgery will happen, you can introduce more failure points rather than redundancy. And once they knock you out to start the surgery how you gonna tell them it's the wrong spot?
Usually this forum is pretty nice to newbies and doesn't suggest that their question is so stupid that it must be a joke. Perhaps Anchorman didn't word the question the best, but it's a legitimate question. He's saying that when the car is locked and approached from the outside, the car detects the key in proximity and will unlock when you grab the handle. He's asking whether that is also true if the key is in proximity -- but inside the vehicle. Will the car detect that the key is nearby and unlock the door when someone grabs the handle. The answer is no. The car can distinguish that the key is actually inside the vehicle and not unlock the door just because someone grabs the handle, even though the key is in proximity. So no problem, Anchorman -- sweet dreams!
Thanks for the detailed replies! 1. I was able to test this out. As far as I can tell if you lock all doors on the driver door from the interior it doesn’t matter where the key fob is, the doors will not open from the outside. 2. I always do my bear research on where I will be camping. I want to know what I might be staring down if I get out to take a leak at night. The part of Missouri where I am camping right now has only seen 1 black bear sighting in 25 years.
There would be some pretty big liability issues for Toyota if they didn't ensure people can lock themselves in their car for safety...

Nice work!!! You spread the load across your base mounting beam. That articulating arm probably weighs more than your display.
