Hybrid battery

    Hello all, hope you are doing well. I have an unusual question and I’m just wondering how long the beautiful concert without being started. I am kind of Facebook Hello all, hope you are doing well. I have an unusual question, and I’m just wondering how long the vehicle can sit without being started. I am kind of face with a dilemma right now and my right rear wheel is seized and I can’t drive the vehicle and the exhaust system is all mangled and I haven’t got out and start the vehicle in three weeks now because I didn’t want to risk on using the hybrid battery to start the vehicle without being able to move it and I’m looking at having it towed to a muffler shop to get the exhaust system replaced. I’m just wondering if I’ll be able to get the car started. Any suggestions? I’m also possibly looking at a Gen 2 but I won’t give up on my Jen one because I love this car and I know it inside and out.

    Sorry, I did not check my wording and everything because of the stupid auto correct but I’m asking how long the hybrid battery well stay charged enough to start the vehicle.

    I've done 4 months in a similar gen2 . So if you're battery is well probably same

    The HV battery should be fine for many months, but the 12V battery tends to loose its charge after a month or so. After the car sits for a long time, it's best to trickle charge the 12V overnight before starting it.

    I do keep an optima battery charger on the 12 V battery all the time. My big concern right now is the right rear wheel is locked up and my exhaust sI do keep an optima battery charger on the 12 V battery all the time. My big concern right now is the right rear wheel is locked up and my exhaust system is totally destroyed and it’s hitting the underneath the car and I’m afraid that the right rear tire is dry rotted and toast. I need the whole exhaust system. Well at least the catalytic converter pipe and I got a quote just for that $530 I believe and the muffler is like $230 so I was looking at a Gen 2 but not knowing anything about it, and I think I would much rather put my money in the car but I know and I’ve had for several years, then buying some thing that I know nothing about I have never driven it for long periods of time. Or a 2000 to my mileage is very low I think I’m just a little over 200,000 miles. But I live in a cold climate and I drive electric vehicles and I know they tell us to check your range because we may have to go to a charging station sooner than what is normally a designated and because that work afternoons it gets colder at night so that’s why I haven’t gotten out and tried to start the car because I know use the hybrid battery to start the car it was that’s what I was told here on this forum. But if I get a decent day and I can go out there at least get it started and let the engine run. I can call AAA and have them tow it to the muffler shop because the guy told me that I may not need the muffler and as far as the right rear wheel goes, it just might be seized up and just needs to be lubricated or whatever and it’s got drum brakes in the back and I try to drive it every other day and then last time I went to drive it I felt it and I thought it unlocked. I didn’t know if that was dragging the tire all along.

    I have had my hybrid battery replaced because it was an expensive lesson to learn. II have had my hybrid battery replaced because it was all expensive lesson to learn. I blew out the right side tires and thought I had bent rims and I just drove the car home because I was only a couple miles away and I just parked the car, but I would get out there once a week and start the car up and then let it run. I came out the last time start the car up and start cutting my grass I’m coming about 1 acre and when I came back around my heart running and I got done in the car still running so I put the zero turn mower up came out shut the car off and try to restart it and it would not start and all these lights lit up all over the instrument cluster and I thought what the heck is going on. I was lost cause I didn’t know what to do and that’s when I got on this forum and it asked questions and found out that no it just doesn’t use the 12 V battery to start the engine to use the hybrid battery and I also found out that when you go in reverse and Streakley wanting off the hybrid battery so that’s why I back it in so I said I don’t know what to do and I actually found a place called green bean battery company and they would come to your home or your place of business and replace the hybrid battery and take yours in exchange and I think I have a lifetime warranty on it. So I don’t want to spend $1900 now they have a hybrid battery replaced. And because I’ve converted mine to the gym to battery I went to get another battery for it but I had read where the battery from Toyota was better than the Optima so I went to the dealer and they had two batteries there. Do you live inside I don’t have a clue I know the original Gen 1 had pencil posts and I looked at the two batteries they brought out for a Jen to and I said I don’t know those post look awfully small so I’m going to have to take my 12 V battery out and take it there and compare it. You guys there’s no way I want to go back to that little motorcycle battery that that thing had.

    The little battery that the generation 1 and 2 probably both have your kind of stuck with because the battery tray will only allow pretty much that group size battery to fit easily some of us have used universal batteries alarm batteries all kinds of nonsense has been done Not without much issue Yes the terminals are the pencil type terminals and there are things you can buy to convert the ends of your battery terminal so that you can work with other batteries this is the 12 volt so it's not mission critical is only 12 volts going through your connections not too bad anytime the car is in ready mode the hybrid system is charging the 12 volt battery at like 14.5 volts It just doesn't have as much AH behind it or whatever needs to be like an alternator and a regular automobile but it does the job well enough it generally keeps the 12 volt at about 80% which isn't too bad. I would say you really want to get a Toyota HV battery but not necessarily a Toyota 12 volt Toyota sells the same group size that your car came with in the 12 volt they don't have any larger to go larger or more AH you'll have to shop around there are some ways to do it with lithium and they're very lightweight there may be some other options but none of the options is going to have the same pencil post that we have.

    Well if you're driving electric vehicles too then you got your hands full so maybe not really need to worry about the generation one too much.? I don't know rear wheel locked up exhaust trashed I mean looks like things are mounting up I don't know where you live or what kind of rust or anything else could be on the car so there's always that I would love to have a generation one but it's getting so hard to find bits and pieces for it it would be hard to drive it and have people in it breaking the interior plastic and touching things and what have you The generation 2 is a very nice car compared to the three and on up so far at least for us It's a solid vehicle the door panels all the stuff inside the car is pretty solid like the old days after 2010 everything seemed to turn to real cheapness anything they can cut a corner on quality wise it seems they have and so it all works out in the wash pretty good so about the time you have 150,000 mi on the generation 3 on up the rest of the car is starting to become trashed pretty good and you just get out of it and get in a new payment or a new vehicle which is exactly what they want you to do.

    Any case size 51R 12volt will fit the 2002. I'm currently using a U1R lawn tractor battery in my '02. Works fine. Unless you like paying upwards of two bills, avoid the dealer. Shop around for different brands. Many of them are made by the same few factories: Deka, Johnson, etc. I've had good service out of Interstate and Duracell. Walmart has a U1R battery for cheap, made by Deka (I think).

    For the above, you will have to modify/replace the OE battery clamps to fit SAE posts or spade posts. Not a huge deal for a DIYer.

    Yes any of the small batteries will work anything that can fit back there If it don't fit and you want to sit it on the tray in the back just because I mean you know whatever trips your trigger or floats your boat it's just a 12 volt battery until you're driving a lot at night running the light etc 12 volt really doesn't do a whole lot keep some computers on.

    Wow, that was hard to read. I gave up. But I think I read some questions. I just pulled one of my cars out this weekend that I haven't started in about 8 months. Fired right up.

    If you can do the install, replacing a cat costs <$250. I've found cats on Ebay for about $100. Two bolts hold it on at the manifold, one ox sensor to unscrew, one vacuum line to pull off, another two bolts by the driver's rear wheel, and then two $4 rubber hangers on the resonator to cut through and replace. Take that all off, bolt your new cat to the manifold, then drive it, very noisily, to a muffler shop that will weld the pipes back together.

    You do have to "hack" that vacuum line by connecting it to a similar-sized canister. Some have used a canister from a Honda motorcycle, for example. Just plug that vacuum line in and find a place to tuck the canister.

    If you just cut the pipe on the backside of the cat (but as close as possible to have as much pipe left in front of the resonator for the shop to play with) as the cat thieves do, you don't have to remove anything from there back. The cat thieves actually cut it in front of the cats too, which makes it real easy to get at those manifold bolts.

    Your price quote is obviously not a CARB-compliant cat, like the original, and in MI you don't have to replace with a CARB cat. But, if for whatever reason you want an original cat, I have them for sale. Also, if any of the back end of your exhaust system is damaged (resonator, muffler, pipe), I have those too. Also, I have OEM vacuum canisters.

    You also need the HV battery. There are aftermarket vendors who offer 3-year warranties for around $1500 with shipping, however, when you add those other parts you need, IMHO, you would be better off buying a wrecked Prius at auction and scavenging those parts. You can buy one with cat and battery for <$1000. I've bought them for $500. SYK, almost all of the time, the wrecked cars have good batteries - they were driving at the time of the wreck. Also check the auction pics to see if any CELs display, or the Ready light.

    I've actually bought such a car, drove to the auction and pulled those parts, then had it hauled to a metal recycler straight from the auction. If you don't have your own truck/trailer, the wrecker will cost you about what you get from the recycler, so that's a wash.

Tow lot salvage yards people's yards doesn't matter paper work or not really doesn't matter I like to get it but it doesn't matter I've got enough cars with titles that I can just title a title that doesn't exist or go to anything anymore but it's in my name put the car on the insurance get a tag and start driving doesn't matter here It may matter where you live because you know we have all those laws and things going on out here in the country nobody really cares I've got an '09 Prius insured and I hit you with my generation 2 Prius that might not be the '09 The cop doesn't care.
