I recently had my struts/springs replaced on my 225k mile 2006 Prius with some KYB Strut plus Excel-Gs from RockAuto. Ever since then there has been this racket going over bumps from what sounds like the top strut area on both sides. I've since taken it back mechanic said that everything was tightened down, made sure proper spring seating and he wasn't sure what it could be. He even mentioned the sway bar end links seem fine. Still it persists. I've given it all the time I can The Rockauto return window is rapidly closing and I need to get this issue resolved as soon as possible. Thanks!
Yes if you didn't have to do anything except put the strut and the hole put the three nuts on top the hub up to it on the bottom and so on the spring was there then you got a new assembly top plate all of it so me personally at my house I would have to jack up the car to the front wheels are off the ground both of them and then have a look inside the strut towers from the top of the car and from inside the wheel well if you have to take a tire off will so be it hopefully you have an electric impact to do that while the car is in the air. And see if you have any thing loose or hanging with the suspension it full droop we call this. Something definitely doesn't sound right struts on any of these vehicles is not very complicated issue so something is not playing nice together whether they put a top plate on that doesn't match the strut piston rod that's coming up out of the base strut I don't know can't see from here you know for all I know the ball joint nuts could be loose on the control arm any of that stuff sometimes it takes a pry bar and lifting up on parts of the suspension I use a digging bar it's a long piece of iron and jack up on the suspension sometimes I have my girlfriend or who's ever over visiting down on their knees looking while I'm cranking up and down on the suspension not trying to damage anything but you are looking for what is clunking and rattling which is you know you got 1,300 lb on each wheel or something like that 960 whatever it is.
Call RockAuto now and explain the situation telling me everything on the car seems to be spot on but there's this persistent clunking noise and well the only thing that's changed on my quiet worn-out suspension car was the new struts bought from right here X amount of time ago I've had everything back together now for 2 months or whatever it is and we can't chase this noise down It's very weird send them an audio. They're not unreasonable people over there.
Well with the suspension it full droop and a pry bar under a tire you'll be able to jiggle the said end links up and down and see if that's causing your noise very quickly they're not under much stress at this point so just bouncing the wheel up and down gently should cause the click click clunk clunk.
