Hi all, I searched the forum for such information with no luck...please excuse me if the topic has been already dealt with. I noticed that among other settings in CARISTA, there is one regarding the front and rear CENTRAL (only??) parking sensors range: two options, LONG and SHORT (or any two equivalent words, i don't remember exactly). Default is LONG. Since I feel that such sensors do begin to beep way to early...is there any chance that such setting is actually true, i.e. manufacturer exposes such tuning? I'm asking since many features listed by CARISTA do not apply to the PRIUS, although they state the car is "fully supported". Incidentally, it is a feature reserved to the full version of CARISTA. thanks
I wouldn't mess with it. Incidentally, if the sensors need to be reinstalled, they are extremely expensive to calibrate. You are looking at thousands of dollars.
Yes. Look in the manual - you'll find a list of scantool tweakable things there, including that. Haven't adjusted myself though, and don't recall whether the default was long or short.
No. What KMO is talking about are customization options built into the car itself by Toyota. When it comes to parking assist, there are three customization options: Front Center, Rear Center, & Corners. Each of those has two selections: Standard(default) and Near. At least that is on US cars. The info is found in section 9.2 of the manual. Look for something called Intuitive Parking Assist or something in Italian close to that. (But not Advanced Park; that's the auto-parking feature on some of the top-trim models.) If you have Panoramic View Monitor(the 360 degree camera option), you should be able to change the Front Center and Rear Center settings through the PVM options screen. For everything else(Corners and/or non-PVM cars) you need to go to a dealer or get one of the good diagnostic tools and a Global TechStream(GTS+) subscription. I could be wrong, but I don't think a Carista is going to be able to go deep enough into the settings. I do know that Carista still doesn't list the gen5 as a supported car.
It is on page 629. It says only the Toyota dealer can change it from standard to near. I wouldn't be very comfortable in setting it to near. In my Gen 4, when the sensors get nearer, it turns from one yellow bar to two yellow bars to red bars within a couple of inches or so, leaving little reaction time. I also don't know how well the automatic braking works if you set it to near.
And is it perhaps possible that someone driving in Rome might have to deal with more obstructions and false positives on a daily basis than someone living in Paramount, California? That maybe they are already on high alert all the time because of narrow streets and congested everything, and a car that constantly beeps becomes an annoyance you ignore instead of a safety feature that's helpful? Hell, I'm about ready to have the corner setting changed to near just because of the noisy nightmare of going through a restaurant drive-thru.
Yes . In traffic jam it's quite annoying to hear that alarm going off every time a scooter passaes between the front of my car and the car in front... That's the main reason why I wanna have it tuned down, I'll have a look if it can be set without resorting to carista.
Found it! central front, central back and corners can be adjusted to standard/short range....only by toyota dealer. So, the setting is there. How likely is it that Carista would mess up the whole thing if I set it to short?
I think Carista just does the same switch toggling in the car's programs that the dealer software does.
