I’ve just we joined the forum after doing lots of searches on how to best convert my Japanese 2017 Prius to MPH. I’ve not managed to find any useful information and the JDM cars don’t have the MPH button. i have downloaded Techstream but in all honesty, unsure where to look or what to do as when I click the combination meter there are no options to change. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Matt
If your car has no way in the settings to convert to MPH from KPH you can use this mental trick: 8 KPH = 5 MPH. So 80 kph is 50 mph, 40 is 25, 120 is 75. It isn't exact, but it is so close as to not matter. Make up a cheat sheet and stick it on the dash for the speeds you need.
In North America, early year 4th gens (2016 included) had no way of switching from the default speedometer display: mph displays could not be switched to kmh, and vice versa. Toyota never fixed it for the early years, maybe offered some sorta conversion decal?
I did not know that. Mine was a dealer demo and has fuel use record going back to 10/2015. My memory - such that it is - wants to say I can change mine but I have no real confidence in that, will check it out. I seem to be an outlier in many ways. The OP is talking about a Japanese market 2017 model, though.
My 2017 Prime has a setting to switch from km/h to mph. I wish there was also a setting to bump up that ridiculous NA 10 kWh/100 km to 40 kWh/100 km that Europe has. It's always pegged to the top when in EV mode.
Thanks for the replies. I have since found out it is possible to load the instrument cluster with the eeprom data from a UK vehicle. So I now need to find an eeprom dump from a UK car and get it loaded into my Japanese cluster which will in turn change it tp mph and mpg. We tried one file but it was from a USA vehicle and the data wasn't suitable (we opened driver door, dash displayed passenger open).
I’m in same boat Japanese import Toyota Prius 2019. Meter needed to be converted to MPH from KMH in order to make car drive able in UK Please help
The speedometer? Not sure about a Prius built for Japan, but any (other than first production year, 2016) intended for North American market DID have a dashboard setting, capable of switching speedometer between kilometres and miles. There is a regulation regarding this? And again, it’s the speedometer that must be able to show miles per hour? It is funny, how we progress; speedometers of yesteryear managed the conversion quite simply:
Try pressing the button ABOVE - H : M: 00 . ( with bulb and spedometer), If it has a one simiallr. This link may also be useful.
