Heading into the desert again soon, an area I know pretty well, so I'm 100 percent certain there will be no cell service, so no way to call out for help if I get a flat. I've always, ALWAYS had a full-size spare with me. I was trained to use them before I was allowed to get a driver's license. I've changed them now and then on the side of the road (for me, for others); it's generally faster to do it than to wait for roadside assistance, especially in wide-open Western states or rural communities (like where we live) away from metro areas.

This goop-and-compressor setup of safety conscious (guffaw) Toyota isn't going to work if I get a larger cut (we'll be hitting some dirt, so this is possible) or damage larger than a crack or a small screw/nail. Have read about @Hammersmith 's OEM full-size fitment effort that doesn't work with PHEV (but thanks, for your work there!), as well as various posts and sites and owners' experiences with what donuts will fit the PHEV (since full-size will be WAY to big to manage along with everyday packing), searched half a dozen wheel/tire shops for something I could pick up locally, and finally settled on just going with this full setup (as recommended by my favorite local wheel/tire shop) including jack, wrench, a more aerodynamic-than-the-traditional donut wheel and tire.

Posting the link here for anyone else interested in giving it a shot. (I will try it out in the driveway before I hit the road with it. I'll report back when I do.)

So it turns out I can't leave the link to help anyone until I've made 4 posts...here's number three.

Does this county as number two? Or does it have to be a new thread rather than reply? Time will tell...

OK...I can't post a link, and I'm headed to bed. Also can't seem to remove my own comments so you get the thread. Google for yourself and you should be able to find it using the terms "modernspare" and a dot and a com. There you can put in your year and model, or use your address bar to include 2024-toyota-prius-prime-spare-tire-kit-options/

Sorry mods...the gatekeeping is a bummer. Just trying to share with others to save them the hours spent on this research and driving from shop to shop and dealer to dealer only to find this fix isn't available locally. (Or, as one dealer put it, "anywhere in North America." Gotta love dealers).

Just to be clear, the spare tire in my thread is also a donut spare. No version of the Prius has enough space under the cargo floor for a full size spare. The reason I refer to OEM in my thread is because it's the same spare tire installed into the Prius by Toyota in certain markets(an option in Japan, standard equipment in Mexico).

Also, the ModernSpare option has been posted on the site a few times already. EZ-SpareWheel makes a similar kit. I'll say the same thing about both of them: They cost about $400-500 for a kit you can get directly from Toyota and TireRack for $260(without the bag).

    $97.20 - Yokohama Y870B - 145/90D16
    $72.09 - Toyota steel spare wheel (42611-21280)
$90.26 - Toyota tool kit (09105-47020) - I think it's overpriced, but it does guarantee the jack is the correct rating, the jack lift point will match the pinch weld on the car, and that the tools will perfectly fit in the existing pockets in the Prius Prime foam deck boxes.
Free shipping for all of them.

All you would need to do is take the tire and wheel to a tire shop to have it mounted($10-$25 depending on the shop).

    But to each their own.

the le trim has the 'low deck' hence i've been wondering about the 17" ez spare wheel 125/80r17 tire size which is narrower and smaller when compared to the stock 195/60/r17. would a spare tire that is -36.4% narrower (4.9") and -5% smaller in diameter (23.9") work out better for prius le with its low deck?

I mean, yes, but you can't fit a full size spare under the floor of a XLE/LTD either. The official spare for an XLE/LTD is a 145/90/16. That's a little wider than the 125/80/17 you're looking at, but not much(about 3/4").

Thanks, @Hammersmith , to your threads and posts and multiple efforts to educate people, I learned the full-size wouldn't fit under the deck of this car, nor will the donut. I don't much care for the donut, but in the first month of ownership I've carried some loads and have come to realize just how little storage space there is, so...donut it is for me!

Thanks for that clarification. Just for another perspective from my own experience, one can't get the wheel from ANY Toyota outlet. Our local dealership told me NO ONE in North America had such a thing. Apparently THEY didn't have it, and didn't want anyone else to make the sale. And looking at that part online (per your part number) it wasn't really clear to me whether it would fit my car, whether it was a donut rim or full-sized rim (yes, I've looked at the ToyotaParts site and run the number. I haven't measured my full-size wheel, so the measurements provided on the site didn't really help me).

So, yah, I shelled for the kit. I'll test it in the driveway. It'll likely hang in that little zip bag on the deck with the groceries and camping gear for the life of this car, which I'm already getting a feeling will the the shortest-lived Toyota we've ever owned.

    Thanks for reiterating your details.

I would like to go this route rather than the $$ of ModernSpare or EZ-Spare. However, I cannot confirm fitment of the above rim with a '24 Prime. It seems it's confirmed for a non-Prime, but I don't know if there is anything different in the brake calipers which would keep this from fitting a Prime. I've heard that 16" rims can be a tight fit and I just want to be sure.

Is there a "official" p/n catalog somewhere that I can check?
