Hey everyone, I have a 2006 Prius with over 100k miles. I’ve been having a persistent issue where the car decides to slow down and not want to accelerate, but now it’s not gotten to the point where it’ll shut down and restart.

I’ve had success at one point where the car ran perfectly because I replaced a bad cell in the hybrid battery but that only lasted about a month.

I’ve read the codes and this is what I got:
    P0171
    $7EA
    $7E8
    $7EB

Someone suggested I erase the codes to see if that could do anything. I tried it but all that happens is my dashboard clears up and a few seconds later the message “problem” appears with a symbol of a car with an exclamation mark.

I wonder if anyone has had this problem as well? Perhaps it is an easier fix than I think or something way more complex. I appreciate any feedback.

Whatever scantool you are using, it's not capable of checking all systems for codes. Yes, you have to actually diagnose the P0171 (Bank1 system too lean), but you also reported a "problem" message (on the MFD?) - any other warning lights?

Here's a thread that reviews scantool apps and devices, some are "all system" capable.

Next, are you willing to learn about fuel control and to do some testing? You already tossed a MAF at this and that didn't help.

Yes, “problem” appears on the MFD. The other light that turns on is the engine icon.

I will look into other scanners thank you.

At this point, I am willing to take in any new information! I don’t know if this helps but I did notice that my car seems to emit a burning smell.
