    I would like to invest in an oil catch can. Need advice on which to get.

    Actually most of them are very similar If you look at them online the shape of the can the in and out of the lines and all of that are very similar If you just Google the oil catch can in the Gen 3 section of this list you'll see models and units and use they're pretty much very similar. You're still going to wind up with the 2ZZ Atkinson problems regardless of what you catch in a can for oil The system has something similar to this built-in it's just not very well executed It kind of works but this is not going to save you from a head gasket problem or a messed up engine after 150,000 mi your best bet is to just be out of the car by then and beyond to a new payment or another vehicle Why risk it these cars are not made to go the long distances of Toyota of yore.

    I don’t know that I’d recommend it, there are more efficient, but I’m using a pair of Moroso 85474, in series. They’re very solid construction, dependable.

    The Achilles heal for me was the o-ring between the upper and lower portions: you need to be gentle with it, and Moroso rep advised me to always apply anti-seize on it when reassembling. Also suppled me the o-ring spec, and I was able to source locally.

    I think this is referring to the ports themselves those places where you attach hoses have baffles in them kind of like turning veins and air conditioning duct work similar to that to kind of help the particulate smack into something and then fall down in the bottom of the can that kind of activity.

    Has anyone done a test on the sludge collected comparing Ethanol vs Non-Ethanol fuel ?

    I don't know but you can send that mess out to all these companies that look at your oil and pretty much anything you want to send them and pay for they'll look at give you a print out of all the nonsense contained within the sample and then the scientist types can go to work

    With dual cans in series, I've collected them in separate jars, let them stratefy. my first one collects maybe 50/50 oil/water, and the second more like 80/20 oil/water. Surprisingly, while mostly water, the overall of the second can was maybe 50% more.

    Leaning towards the Mishimoto in tandem with a cheaper second can. Only problem is it doesn’t have a drain. Seems annoying to have to disassemble it all the way each time.

    Yeah but the cats can idea is it It separates the nasty crap coming through the intake to the can keeps the nastiness in the can but lets the oil run back to somewhere the pan whatever right?

    Most just collect stuff, don’t return it anywhere.

    the Moroso 85474 has a drain with gargantuan elbow below. I removed the elbows, replaced with tapered pipe thread brass plugs.

    Mine are mounted on a bracket atop the main front cross beam (underside of which is front jacking point). I have the bracket installed with finger-tight lock nuts, and a flexible layer twixt bracket and beam, since that beam needs to flex whenever front jack point is used.

    I drain them whenever doing an oil change, just back out the two brass plugs, then open the taps. Nary a drop comes out till I open the taps, so maybe even those brass plugs are unnecessary.

    The bracket I cobbled from a section of slotted angle; I’ve slotted out to its edges where the can mounting bolts are, so if I want to remove the cans for a clean out I just need to slightly loosen the bolts, lift the cans up and off the bracket.

    I’m not using hose clamps on any of the barbed connections (have read they’re not required, barbs sufficient), no problems. using 3/8” ID SAE30R7 fuel line, readily available by the foot locally.

    The top half has a dividing wall, with a heavy gauge, stainless mesh biscuit on either side, and a perforated plate enclosing them. There's entrance/exit ports on the sidewalls, symmetrical, can be installed so either is entrance or exit. I've got better pics "somewhere" of the interior, but here's one that shows the exterior:

    The air comes in one side, passes through one of the mesh biscuits, then the perforated plate, over and back into the other side. I've since added a small baffle plate (cobbled from aluminum flashing), attached with the two screws holding the perforated plate, to make the air flow a little further down into the lower chamber, before being allowed back up and into the mesh biscuit on the exit side.

    Here's a pic of the baffle I added. The bend at the tip points towards the inlet side, my thinking being to make the gas work a little harder swirling around that edge. Note: it's painted, and that turned out to be bad news; the paint started to pucker up after a year or two. I've stripped all the paint off now.

    I've purposely kept it not quite as wide as the ID of the barrel, so that even if the level of collected blow-by liquid got up to the baffle, the gas could get around through the gaps.

    Steel slotted angle 2.5"x1.5". I had a "slotted angle phase", have a lot of it.

    Here's an older iteration, from when I had a single can:

    Note the slots I cut in the upstanding leg; they facilitate removal of the can: I just need to loosen the mounting bolts slightly, then I can lift the can off.
