I got a 2012 Prius V 190,000 miles, that the shop is saying needs an engine replacement, they are quoting me $7,700 for the work, warranty 2 years on engine, 3 years on the shop's work. I just moved to the Pensacola area two July's ago from MD seems like prices are a bit high down here, even when getting a U-haul to move down here. Any recommendations?
Dealer price for a new short block rebuild? Hopefully that is a full rebuilt engine, pistons rings head the works. If you knew a good shop you might buy and ship in a Hybridpit engine out of southern calif. Compare.
Or give Todd at Tampa Hybrids a call. Tamps Hybrids is one of the Gasket Masters listed shops. Home - Tampa Hybrids Inc. Toyota Prius Repair Shop Manteca, CA | Gasket Masters Inc
Be sure to get EGR system, including intake manifold, thoroughly cleaned. And keep it clean: repeat every 50k thereafter. See first two links in my signature (on phone turn it landscape to see signature). that’s a lot of money. Can you be more specific about “the shop”, and “the work”? how’s the oil consumption?
That is so RIDICULOUS that it is incredible. I have operated a foreign car repair shop for over 50 years and that price is CRIMINAL. Type into Google: 2012 Prius V JDM engine You will see prices around $1,300 for good engines. $1,300 or so for low mileage JDM engine and if you spent $2,500 for labor it would be high but do-able. DO NOT talk to that shop again. Call around to other shops and ask how much for them to install a JDM engine.
