Hey all, I've read the manual about 10 times, and while driving, I can never seem to understand which button(s) to push to just enable the regular cruise control. Every time I push the cruise button, I get Adaptive Cruise control. When I push the left top button while driving, it normally displays Adaptive Cruise Control Not Available. How do I switch from Adaptive Cruise Control to Regular Cruise Control, and then how do I set the regular cruise control? The times I've tried so many options while driving it's been hazardous and I could have hit a car in the process. I've never had so many buttons related to Cruise Control before, and although I seem to not have any issues getting Adaptive Cruise Control to work, I much prefer at times the 'ol regular cruise control. Can someone help on this one? Also, then what is that Left Top button for, if it only always tells me that same message when I press it?
I'm not sure what button you're referring to by the "cruise button" - the same as the top left one you're also talking about, or another one? They call the top left button the "driving assist switch". It turns on and off the driving assist, whatever mode it's set to. The button with "MODE" on it (the "driving assist mode select switch") changes the mode for the top left button. It cycles between dynamic radar cruise control, basic cruise control, and speed limiter. You can only use that while the driving assist is not active. White icon indicates current mode. Icon goes green when you activate with the top-left button. I also don't understand how "I seem to not have any issues getting Adaptive Cruise Control to work" and "When I push the left top button while driving, it normally displays Adaptive Cruise Control Not Available" can both be true.
What I meant by that was that when I push the right top button, it goes into Adaptive Cruise Control, but when I hit the left button, whether in Adaptive Cruise Control or not, it states 'Adaptive Cruise Control not Available'. I haven't tried the MODE button to change it from Adaptive Cruise Control to Cruise Control; I'll try that this weekend. Driving up to L.A. on Sunday, and would love to have the regular Cruise Control available.
The top right button is the Lane Tracing Assist button - it enables/disables Lane Tracing Assist, but that only takes effect when dynamic radar cruise control is operating. At least on mine, pressing the LTA button when DRCC isn't on just toggles the white LTA indicator, without doing anything immediately. It just controls whether LTA will be activated next time I engage DRCC. I don't know why it would activate the cruise control. US difference, or are you getting left/right confused? (Were you calling the top right button the "cruise button"?)
On my Gen four which has a stalk for the cruise control, normal press = Adaptive and long press = Regular, so maybe try long press of the button? I have never used the regular cruise as the adaptive works brilliantly in my opinion.
Press the button twice. The first time will bring up the adaptive cruise option. Pressing again will bring the regular cruise option.
I know exactly what you're talking about here. Not long after I got the car, I spent a few minutes trying to activate cruise control, but kept getting that "not available" message every time I tried to turn on adaptive cruise control. Bad interface. It's the sequence of buttons, and you have to turn it on first, then switch the mode, using those two buttons. I wish I could describe the sequence without getting into the car to repro, there's just some part of my brain that has adapted to understand those goddamn buttons, but it's nothing I can articulate -- but when you see that message when pressing one of the buttons, push the other button that has a mostly similar but slightly different image on it, then press the other goddamn button.
Correct. Though the operation is not terribly intuitive. Note that there are two 'mode' buttons. The mode needed here is the smaller mode in the ring around the cancel button. (E)
Sometimes, where I live, the roads have haphazard lines, and when they've done work on the roads and changed the configuration of the road, the lines are still visible. There are times when the adaptive cruise was on where the car tried to veer into another lane because of that. In those cases, I just need control.
Lanteral- thanks so much for the illustration. Although the owner's manual may say similar, your explanation in CLEAR english for laypersons solves my issue. Based on other posts, I was going to try the other MODE button, which wouldn't have helped things at all.
That isn't the adaptive cruise control, but the lane tracing system. ACC just keeps you from running into a slower car ahead of you. It should be possible to turn the LTA off separate from the ACC.
If I could do that, I would use it more often. When not using regular cruise or just regular cruise, LTA is on,but only mildly. When adaptive cruise is enabled, it seem like LTA goes into hyper mode and makes a lot of micro adjustments that I normally wouldn't make myself and I feel like I'm fighting the system. I like to stay in the middle of my lane whereas I feel that LTA likes to use all the space between the lines. Like Argyos said, I need control.
Actually, LTA is not active unless you're using adaptive cruise. The "mild" effect you're feeling is the LDA, lane departure alert / prevention. LTA can be disabled when using Adaptive CC by pushing the top right button on the diagram posted earlier. I think LTA comes on by default when you turn on ACC but it can be disabled / re-enabled any time you like by pushing the button. LDA can also be turned off using the menu on the MID. As I recall, if it's been disabled it doesn't come back on automatically when you restart the car.
Hey all, I tested out the small mode button today, and the regular cruise control WORKED! Thanks again to Lantaral, who really took a minute to dumb it down from the manual's non-clear speak.
Oh, but I'm not referring to any "lane keeping" features. I have that turned off already. I'm simply talking about the car keeping a safe distance from the car in front by modulating speed. I am not familiar with "lane keeping" being lumped in with "adaptive CC" sorry, but it looks like Gen 5 uses a different "lane keeping" functionality than Gen 4, the one I'm familiar with.
The Gen 4 changed over the years, according to the manuals. Originally there was a "steering assist" add on to the Lane Departure Alert that preemptively steered back into the lane if it thought you were going to leave the lane, but it wouldn't actively follow a lane. Later they added lane centering, and renamed the whole bundle including the original lane departure functions, as "Lane Tracing Assist". The lane centring was only functional with DRCC. Gen 5 has basically the same functions, except that the lane centring alone is now called "Lane Tracing Assist" and everything else is back under "Lane Departure Alert." The steering wheel button now only toggles the LTA lane centring, not the entire lane departure package.
