Hi all! So this is my 2nd time posting. I previously had an '07 with 250k+ miles that I wound replacing with a '12. I am right around 175k miles, and am getting some odd behavior. I have a T-Mobile SyncUP Drive device (plugs into the OBDII port) that gave me P0A80 code. However, I have no indicators, lights or messages from the car itself. Swapped in my Bluetooth OBDII device, and neither Torque or Dr Prius pull codes. I've read that sometimes codes will show if they are "pending" but haven't actually shown up on the dash. Dr Prius does show "poor balance block: #2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13" with an estimated life expectancy of 48%. I did replace the 12v battery, but the code showed up again about a week later, but again only on the SyncUP app. Although I recently took a 5 hour road trip and averaged 51 on the hwy, MPGs have been averaging slightly worse overall. I normally get around 48, but recently its been 42-ish. Then again, that could easily be chalked up to the colder weather. So I guess I'm trying to figure out what my next step is...Is my battery on borrowed time, or do I still have another year or 2? Are there other things that could be causing the P0A80 code to show on some devices but not the MFD? I've attached a few screenshots, hopefully this will explain what I'm looking at.
Did you charge the 12v battery? You should charge it at 4amps or less for at least 8 hours to bring it to a full charge. You could try the Prolong system for the hybrid battery. It has worked for me. A lot less than a new battery.
All that's going to happen here is as the battery gets worse and worse and worse the engine will run more and more and more and your mileage will go down down down generally with a real bad battery and ice engine running pretty much full time You're looking at like 39.3 mpg And then your battery display will be bouncing from green to magenta to blue and back to green very quickly and very oddly timed battery will be shot how long will that take to get to this condition who knows could be a year especially if the car is driven.
Yes, brand new 12v battery installed in the trunk. The pic of it reading 11.9 was before I changed it. Code disappeared for about a week
I believe he means did you charge the new one? Often they are not at full charge when you buy them new....but if you have driven the car quite a bit since then it is likely where it needs to be now.
Yes, but the vehicle will still continue to run, at least for a while. You can use this time to figure out where you'd want to source your replacement from. Toyota/Lexus regularly run discounts (10%-25% off) on their parts websites, and it is possible for the local Lexus dealer to offer a much lower price than a Toyota one.
"New" doesn't mean it's fully charged. It could have been sitting on the rack for a year, slowly discharging.
