What does this fan icon mean? I cannot find it in the quite unhelpful documentation. It is located on the 'speedometer' (my old-fashioned term) just above the range values in the lower right. Looks like a fan. [Rats. Can't figure how to upload an image or link to it.]
When you turn on the fan, in EV mode it reduces your range. It just tells you "this is the EV range with fan/AC/heat system on" and when you turn off the fan, it adjusts the range up higher and the icon goes away. I think it's supposed to be helpful, especially in eco mode, because auto fan "eco" setting sometimes you don't even realize it's on its so quiet. So having an icon at the speedometer was probably decided on since alternatively you need to look down at the temp controls.
Thanks, Zeromus. So this is an indicator that the heat pump is running (using electricity from the traction battery). That makes sense. Too bad that the documentation does not show the icon and explain it, but glad that this forum is here.
Now that I have learned to turn off the Heat Pump (with fan icon) when my car sits in the sun (even in winter), the sound level inside the car is much lower! With heater going, the car was never 'silent', but I could still hear when the gas engine fired up.
In the "instrument cluster" section on p.159, we have: I'm with you on the heat pump. Far louder than the engine... I find the idea of "you don't even realize it's on its so quiet" rather comical.
