Hi all. My 2014 randomly started not registering the trunk door being closed. I can tell it’s not closing 100%, but it still latches good enough to lock and to not open without me pressing the button on the hatchback. Everything seems to work properly technically. I just think there is something preventing the little latch piece from hitting whatever registers the door as closed. I can close the latch manually while the trunk is open and get the door ajar symbol to turn off, but it won’t do it on its own when I shut the hatch back. I’ll link some photos and video since I’m having trouble doing it here I think it might be this little rubber thing that’s bent weird in there, it seems like the latch piece is rubbing on it and not getting full movement but I don’t know how to fix that.
Take a picture of your entire hatch, including the rubber molding. Maybe that molding is not sitting flush and preventing the hatch from closing properly
The latch has a two positions, the first latches loosely, the second latches tightly and turns off the door ajar light.
That should happen only if something is distorted by damage, or if something is preventing the hatch from closing fully. If it's not fixed, it will run your battery down in less than 3 days (unless you manually push the latch mechanism fully closed, as you mentioned).
