    Hi everyone
I got a 2015 Prius, the time I bought it in 2019, there was nothing wrong until I set it aside for half of a year. The problems came, the first one, every time I started the car, the gasoline engine kicked in first, although it is half- charged like, over 50%, I already read some questions posted in this forum, and I believe it is NOT the problem of warm-up, because when I bought it in 2019, there is no such warm-up problem, the most scenario where the ICE kicks in the startup step is low battery. ice kicks in to charge to 50%, but mine is whatever the batter capacity is, always running for a while like a couple of minutes.

Another problem is the slow acceleration, especially on freeways, when I hit the pedal on the floor, the acceleration is still slow and takes longer to accelerate. Also, when the dash indicator bar is over the battery to the eco mode position, the engine starts again. It seems like the electric engine only works in EV mode at a very low speed which you drive like a snail. When I want to accelerate, it becomes fully on gas, instead of hybrid, the situation right now is that as long as I drive, even a 20 M/H, it is still fully on gas to push the car. And when going on an upside, even if I hit fully on the pedal, the engine rotates crazy, and the acceleration is still slow.

I believe we both know when accelerating, the car will respond quickly following your step, but mine is like you can feel the engine rotates fast, but can not respond following your step.

So the problems are FREQUENT GASOLINE ENGINE KICKS IN, SLOW ACCELERATION, POWERLESS UPSIDE.

I do not know if it is the problems of sensors, circuits, transmissions, or batteries. Can someone help me thank you so much. please.

I want to repeat, that it is NOT the warm-up problem.

From all that you're describing, there is nothing wrong with the car. It is operating as designed. This is a hybrid Prius, not a Plug In Hybrid that can operate using just the battery. You can only use the battery power to drive 10-25 mph maximum, depending on the state of the car at the time.

The only issue is the slow acceleration on freeways, that may be an issue. How many miles does the car have? What maintenance have you done?

even the slow accelleration sounds normal :p

    Hi.
When I bought this car, there was no such issue, such as the ICE kicking in every time after turning the car on, you can try yours. mine is like everytime running for 3-5 minutes though the battery is not under 50%. Also when I drive on the road, I can feel there is no ECO mode where you feel a little of the engine sound, mine is either on battery pretty slow, you said 25 mph, but my car needs like 30 seconds to reach 25 mph with EV mode, or the Power mode, where is solely running on ICE. And my mpg is only 38. The car is 125,000 miles.

I do not think so. Mine is like 30 seconds to 65mph. what about yours? and the mpg is like 38. if I want to gain a quicker acceleration, every time, I need to release the pedal completely and then hit again. even I step on the floor the engine rotates very hard, the acceleration is still slow.

If you're concerned and want a mechanic to look it over for you, bring it to Armstrong Auto Services in Rosemead. They all drive Prius there so they can tell if there is something wrong with your car. The car engine starting to warm up the car seems quite normal. We are in winter.....

How old is your 12v battery? If your HV battery is failing, that's actually a good sign for you since you are still under factory warranty

At 125k miles, you are due for lots of services.

    1. New plugs
    2. Coolant
    3. EGR circuit cleaning
    4. Transaxle service
    5. And much more

It's not clear from your descriptions what, if anything, is wrong. It's normal for the engine to "kick in" every time it is started cold, and run for at least one minute even if the car is stationary. It will continue running longer, maybe the 3-5 minutes you mentioned, if moving. It's also normal for the engine to spin pretty fast if you press the accelerator very far down. That should result in at least moderate acceleration. Are you accustomed to a much more powerful vehicle?
