    Hey guys,
I plan to take my Prius to Mexico for an engine rebuild. Any shop that you would recommend? I'm looking for a hybrid shop so maybe I can also replace the battery.
    Any suggestions?

Why wouldn't you do this in the States are there Prius in Mexico what route you taking? That ought to be interesting Mexican roads and hills will certainly work the car out. You might want to do your engine and your battery here I can't imagine how that's going to go there rebuild what a 1NZ generation 2 Prius certainly but I would probably do it here or at least buy all the stuff to do it here and take it with me I don't know if you can get some kind of a good deal on labor or something there I wouldn't think the parts would cost less but I don't know have all that stuff rounded up and take it with you.

I have people across the border I can't imagine dragging my Prius down to Mexico and doing all this work I would do it before I drug it down there and drive it down there or something and then what are you going to do with it when you get it there obviously I guess the intent is to drive it maybe you're going to a big city.

I was planning on Tijuana maybe, it's like an hour away from San Diego. It's a car with almost 300k miles, and unfortunately I lack the garage/space to work on it. I was even planning on taking it to a dealer down there if necessary. I received a quote here, they are charging me 14k for replacing the hybrid battery and "rebuilding the engine".

My God man out in the country you should be able to find a 1NZ engine even probably with reasonable miles on it I have one sitting here in my driveway You want to come pick it up Little far to go but seriously for $700 a hybrid battery you could pick your poison and deal with anything from $700 to $2,500 for the next cell lithium blah blah blah whatever and never even leave your armchair in San Diego if that's where you said you are I was going to do the same thing for dental work another whole story. But anyway there's no way I can see you doing anything cheaper in Tijuana other than the labor portion and then when you get to the parts I can't imagine the stories I would start to hear but then I hear things when I talk to people that lots of people seem to not key in on. A generation 2. My goodness you're out in California You should find plenty of people private mechanics Hispanic people that like to modify their cars and put the talking back up alarms on everything and all that stuff all of that The car culture actually runs pretty deep with this model you'll find lifted models and models with hydraulics on them and all that It's just like a Corolla Yaris same thing You should be able to get that car fixed up for near nothing You don't need a lot of tools and mess to change the engine and put a hybrid battery and a generation too You could buy disposable tools from Walmart and throw them all away when you were done and not be out any money so to speak but yeah if all of a sudden you have instantaneous ratification by driving across the border into Tijuana than by all means you would know better than anybody maybe.

Why does the engine need to be rebuilt? I have a 2006 with 353k miles and it runs like a beast.
