Is this working for anyone? My daughter has an Android phone that does support it (Pixel 7 Pro), and we have tried multiple usb-a to usb-c cables, most recently an Anker one that specifically said it fully supports Android Auto, but when we plug in her phone it tries to get us to download Toyota Entune and in Android Auto settings on the phone it just says “connect the phone to the car” or something to that effect. I have a lightning cable iPhone (11) that works fine for CarPlay, but now I’m worried if I upgrade to a usb-c iPhone in the next few years I might be out of luck. We have a 2021 Prius LE
I posted this before in the wrong category, I guess, and didn't get any responses, so I'm trying here now. I picked up a 2019 Prime Advanced with an 11.6" multimedia display (there are two versions of the display, a smaller one, and the 11.6"). I've also got an Android phone. when I plug in the phone to the USB port, the only thing I get is a repeated message on the multimedia display saying that it's an unrecognized device (or something like that which I take to mean that the multimedia display is not compatible with the phone). I downloaded the latest Entune for my phone, and updated the multimedia display to the latest version, which solved nothing. They pair via Bluetooth, but that only goes so far as to link the phone, messaging, and audio to the car. As far as I can figure, the Entune features work primarily through a data subscription service. For me it's not worth it to be able to remotely start the climate controls, or unlock and lock the car. I also tried the Android Auto, but I found that it should only work on my phone, and not on the multimedia display on the car. Post back here if you get something that works.
Mine works fine on a Samsung S20, S9+ and S7. Dumb question; has that phone ever been "paired" with the car? I deleted entune and my android auto still works - though I don't use it much.
I think I’ve solved it. Projection was off for Android Auto for some reason: Menu->Setup->Projection Screen Settings Haven’t had the chance for her to try again yet, but it was off, so this seems to explain it. Will update with confirmation once we try it out. EDIT: yes, this was the solution! One thing I notice is if turn projection off for CarPlay, when I connect my iPhone it pops up saying CarPlay is available and do you want to turn it on. But for Android Auto it doesn’t do this. So it seems you have to manually turn it on if it’s off. Very weird.
Our 2021 was working with android auto plugged in but it has quit working. We can't use the navigation from the phone most of the time. It defaults to blue tooth connectivity which doesn't allow phone apps such as maps. One reviewer on google play suggested it was an upgrade from google that forced blue tooth connection to override the cable connection. I also am getting a notice on my phone of a problem with the cable, even when we bought a new Samsung cable. This happens with my S20 note ultra and my wife's S23 ultra. I think the update explanation may be correct because it is a recent problem. It had been working fine. Also, Prius is not shown on the supported automobiles on the Android Auto website.
Did you check to see if “Projection” is off for Android Auto? That was the problem for us. I mean in settings on the Prius: Menu->Setup->Projection Screen Settings It’s worth checking
Thanks. I'll check that. I tried doing that with the new Samsung cable we had bought and when I selected projection it told me there was no device connected. I then decided to try the old cable and when I pushed menu there was an option for android auto. When I selected that the map appeared. While projection doesn't seem to be the problem for me I probably would have taken a lot longer to check the menu without your suggestion so I would still be looking for a solution. That still may be an issue for my wife's phone so I'll keep it in mind.
