My taxi Prius with 766,000km on the clock (476,000 miles) looks to have suffered a traction battery failure, so we have ordered a new genuine Toyota battery complete at a cost of AUD$2,340 ....... if we get the 10 yrs plus the second hand battery achieved, it will be a very cheap investment. If it has a lot more issues than just the battery, then I'll put the new one in my '06 silver iTech that suffered the battery fire and see if I can get that back on the road.
I'm going to try rehydrating the modules to see if I can get a second life out of it, plenty of time on my hands now, just no income ....
Even though I bought the car for less than the cost of the new battery, I'm still very happy with it and it certainly owes us nothing. Unfortunately, with fuel prices going ski high over here, there are no more cheap one available, one cheeky bugga wants AUD$10,900 for an '03 standard package with panel damage over most of the car ..... and it isn't registered either :roll:

Hi I have been using this site for information for awhile now. Fell in love w Toyota when I saw a corolla in a parking lot in high school. We are talkin 80's. I loved the compact design w 4 doors.

Anyway, bought a used 2005 Prius w 150,000 ish thousand miles on it a few years ago. 8 years ago- give or take. Now, it has 350,000 plus miles on it. Odometer is stuck at 299,999.

I really like the gen2's.

I have had some of the more common problems discussed on here such as the headlight issue.

 

I have nearly 350,000 miles on my 2013 Prius C. Only changed the oul every 10000 miles and tires of course. Only had to replace the brake pads twice. Hybrid battery charging fine. And 'no' to the items on your list with the exception of oil changes

 

Wanted to add that i am the original owner and during the demo drive i put it's first mileage on the odometer

 

I heard from mcbrunhilde yesterday. Her 2004 Prius is currently at 335,000 miles. She has to go to Las Vegas next month so she's going to borrow my Prolong battery conditioning system again.

 

Nice for such disposable pieces of equipment. I'm similar w one $2000 and two $800 cars . My tires batteries and oil cost more than cars did . How we likes it.

2007 toyota prius 299,967 miles... bought car new in July 2007. should i replace batteries or give up ship.. fuel mileage down to 36 miles gal.

 

We are at 516k miles with our 2007. I feel like I haven't updated this in a while.

 

What's your repair list? Just bullet points would be awesome

 

Not much. We had the brakes done twice. Oil changes. Spark plugs. Something with the shocks. I would need to check with Toyota. That's what I can remember. Traction battery at around 465k.

 

My 2009 turned 300,000 last November. Currently at 308,500+

I was eagerly anticipating it and it was in the middle of nowhere Iowa when it happened.

1) Did you replace the HV battery pack?
- Nope never.
2) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid?
- Nope never.
3) Did you replace the brake pads?
- yes twice on the front, first time was 222k, second time was just before it turned 300k
4) Your lifetime MPG (if available)?
- right around 38mpg and that is 98% highway miles and high speeds and with a roof rack on
5) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use?
- I change oil about every 3k miles, have accidentally gone too long 2-3 times. 5W30 conventional oil. Starting to use oil now but I've not tried to address it yet.
6) How about post a picture of 300,000 miles on ODO?
- I have this, but cannot seem to upload jpg or pdf files...??
7) Are you the original owner?
- second owner, first was a physician going on sabbatical to Israel I think. I paid $6,000 for the car with a trailer hitch (for bike rack) and a set of winter tires.
8) How many miles under your ownership?
- all except the first 115k

- it's been a great car, loaded with car top carrier for camping, or a canoe up top and gear in the back... I've slept in it many a night and never hesitated to take it wherever the roads lead me. Best investment ever. Starting to rust out on the rocker areas I've really only had to replace blower motor, wheel bearings (starting at 191k), main water pump (230k), combination meter (263k), inverter water pump, and coolant control valve after that... Hybrid battery seems to be in good shape still - knock on wood.

 

Nah they got me once with the Gen 3 business The C seemingly is a 1NZ with all the badness of the one zz Atkinson added to it. Seems to me like it would be a recipe for not so we didn't I like the car it's cute but after what happened with the three I wouldn't want to go through that with a C and be in the same boat so I just go back to a two which essentially is a C without the problematic additions.

2003 Prius that's been in the family since 2007.

It also happened in the middle of nowhere Iowa because that's where I live.

Traction battery was replaced under warranty in '07. Besides that, it's been through a lot of tires, catalatic convertors, air filters, and oil changes. That said, its last official oil change was in 2021, since then I've just topped off every 6-12 months. Been impressively reliable.

Yeah, don't do that if you want your car to continue to be reliable.

Even if you're "burning" oil you still have the drain the remaining oil and fill it with fresh oil every 6 months/5,000 miles (in the US) to rid the oil sump of contaminants. These contaminants will build up with continual top-offs.

 

The "Taxi Prius" is a donor vehicle at the moment. It donated the new traction battery, a rear seat base (lost the iTech leather one from the '06 in the workshop fire) front brake pads (it was a long weekend and the noise of metal on metal was making people look when coming to that last part of the stop), I'm guessing when these pads wear out, I'll pinch the discs as well. The rear lights because the ones on the Silver Prius melted due to the radiant heat from the workshop fire ... and a tyre and wheel to give me a spare that isn't speed limited and the size of a motorcycle tyre......
It might get resurrected one day before I strip too much more off it, just to get my silver Prius back, depends if the vibration under power in the LHF is serious or not ... might just be a bushing or CV, it might be the transaxle about to throw in the towel .... So, at the moment, it isn't clocking up any more numbers on the odometer, just sitting there on the workshop concrete slab propped up on a couple of gas bottles, looking rather sad and sorry for itself. We get asked by the locals when it will be back on the road, it is famous locally, mostly for flying past them in a taxi orange blur as the wife taps into her race driver persona :lol: My poor Silver Prius is starting to get that rep, but hurtling around tight bends added in due to the body stiffening bits and suspension upgrades .....
