Not sure if it's been posted before, but there's a little quirk between the heated seats and the remote start that those of us in colder climates should be aware of. The state of the heated seat function will be retained on remote start... *UNLESS* Custom Climate Settings has been selected and saved in the climate section of the Toyota app. If you've set a custom climate setting in the app, the state of the heated seats will be reset to off upon remote start. The unfortunate side effect of this is that you can't have the seats warming and the rear defrost going at the same time during remote start. You can turn on the rear defrost using the custom settings, but that shuts off the seats. Just an FYI.
There is a lot of room for improvement in terms of what Toyota can do to enable climate settings remotely. One of my wife and I’s other cars is a Tesla and there is quite a bit we can enable remotely. I feel like Toyota is teasing us like Apple does with iPhones—slowly releasing new capability when much greater capability is already available.
Yep. Separate system so it doesn't get reset when the custom climate setting gets sent to the climate control(as opposed to the heated seats which are part of the climate control unit).

Front defrost and back defrost. You can have the defrosts operating during the autostart(using the custom climate settings) or you can have heated seats on(by leaving them on when you last shut off the car), but you can't have both. Autostart is set to 10min. You can't change that. You can run it twice for a total of 20min, but that's it.
if you choose off for front and rear defrost will the auto feature be in effect in the climate control system then you can leave the seats on hope the phone has a decent range the remotes a joke nothing beyond 15-20 feet away
If you enable custom climate settings(the slider at the top of the screen), it resets the climate control when you use autostart, which also shuts off the heated seats if you had them on when you shut off the car. It doesn't mean you can't turn them on when you get into the car, but they won't preheat for you. The phone's range is at least a few thousand miles, so you should be okay if you use it.
