At the locksmith now. 2005 with SKS. Keyless entry etc. all work. Inserting the key does not. What seems to be the case is they cannot program a second key unless my car can recognize the key in the slot. He using the very expensive programmer. So I’m moving on to the all keys lost procedure, I bought tokens and will try that with Techstream. As for why my car doesn’t recognize the RFID chip, no idea.
Yes, I think my problem is I don’t have a fully functioning SKS key. The car doesn’t recognize the rfid chip
Yeah so then maybe you got a fob and an RFID chip from another vehicle bought it online given to by a friend whatever and you can program up everything except whatever involves the RFID chip and I'm not sure how you will get around that Do you know that the RFID chip that's in the remote you have for your car was for that vehicle for sure and I'm assuming the metal key works the driver's door? I'm not sure if you don't have the original fob that went with the car then it gets expensive and tricky I do believe if you have a fully functioning working fob SKS or not then things are usually going to happen. I don't know if even Toyota with all the numbers and everything can provide you with a new SKS remote with an RFID chip that will match the pickup unit in your car which is I guess the SKS unit right there under the dash pad I don't know if they're a special numbers on it that can be captured and then someone could use those numbers to possibly clone the RFID chip but I'm not sure of any of that.
Locksmith should have the tool to check if the "working" fob has a good RFID chip. (if the fob shell was ever replaced, the chip might not have been swapped over). Before going to "all keys lost", might want to turn off SKS and try the fob in the slot to see if the immobilizer reports that an unprogrammed fob is present (likely need an "OE level" scantool, such as Techstream or equivalent). I wouldn't want to begin the seed process only to fing out there is a fault with the car and now it won't start at all. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Thanks, I am the second owner, elderly couple bought it new, from all I can see this is the OEM key, has the metal which works. I have not opened it up to look at the RFID but I will. Will try Techstream register key procedure today and follow up.
I have Techstream now ready to go, and tokens for a code generator. When I open Techstream I’ll look if it has a in programmed key error and follow up.
Ernie. I also have techstream and am attempting to add a USED key as a second key for my SKS system. I haven't found a good reference for how to do this, but Techstream showed the following requirements in their smart code registration wizard... 1. Immobilizer codes have been registered 2. Power/Engine Switch is ON(IG) 3. Smart Cancel function is OFF I do not understand #1. I believe the Prius in ACC mode (2 Press of Power with no foot on brake) satisifes #2 and it looks like the SKS toggle in the OFF position satisfies #3. I am interested in what you discover. Where do you get tokens and what are they used for?
Just for anybody following this thread later, two presses of the Power button (with foot off the brake) is IG-ON. ACC is one press of the Power button with foot off the brake.
