I'm not completely sure exactly what the "$5K protection" is related to so I can't answer your question with total certainty, but speaking in general as far as dealing with any car dealership my wife and I have started walking out of the dealership when they seemed reluctant to meet what we thought was a reasonable deal, as sometimes they are willing to bend rather than lose a sale.

As far as the 2024 Prius Prime I do like that it is advertised as having an all-electric range of up to 44 miles.

Now our car is paid for so we don't care to be back under monthly payments again so we are okay with our 2020's stated all-electric range of 25 miles since we have gotten as much as 30 miles on electric only depending on various factors.

i've seen some dealers change MSRP on their websites to SRP. haven't seen any fallout from toyota

 

i just made a deposit on a bolt, with a signed contract for msrp, including all the pricing details and taxes and registration

 

8.5% above that ? I really don't know offhand but I wonder if they ask that because they have a legitimate reason for asking for that or if they ask for it simply because they can. I wonder if they have to show just cause for such a big increase. (of course customers who don't want to pay an extra 8.5% will either try elsewhere or hold off buying for a while in hopes of better deals later on)

 

you replied to someone who said "you didn't agree on a price, just msrp? " we have had times in the past when the dealer did not work with us for a reasonable offer and we would get up to walk out the door, sometimes that makes them rethink giving you a better deal

 

Its hard for me to understand all these MSRP discussions. Isnt the MSRP just not some made up number and the USA very famous for capitalism and free market? Demand and supply? Is there something I miss?

Even the more consumer friendly EU does not work fundamentally different here - the MSRP is just differently marketed.

Alternatively the state could just set a price - welcome to socialism. There are interesting articles about how to order a Trabi (Trabant) in the DDR. Fixed price for everyone - no price gouging from dealers. With a waiting list of 10-15 years the system did not work that well and its literally history now.

 

yes, msrp is exactly what it stands for. Manufacturers SUGGESTED Retail Price.
it's a baseline that has been used here for decades, as in 'how much did you get off msrp?'
and there was a time when cars weren't selling, people thought they were finding the dealer cost, and paying that, or something above it. but there were (are) hidden dealer kickbacks, so their profits are higher than some think.
we also had a fixed price manufacturer. gm created saturn, which was supposed to run completely independent of gm, like a separate company, so the corporate shenanigans wouldn't affect them.
their pricing model was fixed, no haggling. like trabi, they no longer exist. but i don't know if it was the pricing model, or the crappy cars they made, which weren't much different than gm.
the fixed price model makes some buyers comfortable, but can't compete in a buyers market.

 

Just did a straight up trade at a dealership for a 2017 Prius Prime Plus Red with 112k miles one owner for my 2017 Prius Wagon Black 106k miles - valued at 15k - dealer sticker price was 15446

Hello! Potential first-time Prius Prime owner here.

I'm seriously considering a 2020 Prius Prime XLS for $24,990 before tax + title.
It has 66,222 miles - so about 20,000 miles per year. Carfax is clean with regular 5,000-7,000 maintenance (including oil change). Seems like a good deal, but wondering what others think?

Downsides? Mostly it has a handful of smalls scuffs, scratches. Plastic interior of tailgate has a lot of scratches from loading/unloading from trunk. I suspect it was used for Uber/Lyft.

I haven't been able to get Dr. Prius to work - so I'm going off of the fully charged battery and mileage guess-o-meter, hoping the HV battery is fine.

What do you all think about the price?

 

It has downsides mainly regarding the safety features:

1. TSS 2.0 became available in the 2021 model year.
2. Unless you get the Limited trim, you don't get the safety features such as BSM, RCTA, parking sensors with automatic braking, etc.

 

I kjust did a search and TSS 2.0 was suppossedly offered in 2019 and newer (at top of page).

Nope, I had a silver 2020 Prius Prime XLE, and it had TSS 1.0, missing the lane-tracing function and some other functions.

 

2018 Prime Advanced 29k miles, pretty much undiscernible from new for 31,000 as CPO from a Toyota dealer.

Lane keep assist comes standard. TSS is Toyota Safety Standard
Are you thinking of:
Lane keeping assistance (LKA) gives steering support to assist the driver in preventing the vehicle from departing the lane. There is another system called Lane centering assist (LCA) that provides automatic steering to continually center the vehicle in its lane." Cons Rpts.

 

Yes, I said "lane-tracing assist," not lane-keep assist. TSS-P does not have lane-tracing assist, which automatically steers the car to keep it in the center of the lane. There is a lane-trace on/off button on the steering wheel, and if the function is turned on, the car will start automatically steering within the lane if cruise control is turned on. I use it all the time on my blue 2021 Prius Prime Limited.

As I said, TSS 2.0 became available on Prius Prime in the 2021 model year. 2020 and earlier had only lane-keep assist but not lane-tracing assist. The brochure you linked says "For model year 2019 and newer vehicles equipped with TSS 2.0." It does not say "Model year 2019 and newer vehicles are equipped with TSS 2.0." The deployment of TSS versions wildly vary with the model year and generation.

In summary:

Prius Prime 2017–2020: TSS-P
Prius Prime 2021–2022: TSS 2.0
Prius Prime 2023–2024: TSS 3.0
